Question Fries North Bridge?

About two weeks ago my rig started to become very unstable and started crashing during the boot sequence. The settings I had, I had been using for over a year with no problems what so every. Those being 11.5X209 FSB with a voltage of 1.85 with a CPU load temp. of 48 C and a North Bridge temp of 25 C on an ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe with a 2800 Barton core.

I checked temps, voltage, every thing I could think of and nothing was set wrong. I was forced to drop the bus down to 12.5X100 just to get it to boot. With Clock Gen I can get a stable FSB of 150 but not a MHZ more.

After some research I come across some reports of the nForce2 series not being able to handle the extra heat with out some higher end cooling. It seems that the North Bridge is a bit more vulnerable to heat and over the long run gets fried at higher voltage. I just want to make sure that it really is the mobo before I spend the money to replace it. Thanks for any light you guys can shed on this problem!

It would be my assumption if the northbridge was "fried" the board wouldnt boot at all. Have you tried gerry rigging a fan or more powerful fan (not sure if your northbridge has active cooling) on it to see if that changes things.

I've tried that already. It's dropped the temp down to 21-22 C with no luck. I guess that fried isn't the term I wanted, damaged that sounds better. Thanks.

lmfaoo.

Slap a 120MM on that sucker and if you still cannot run higher FSB's I'd consider RMA.

I've considered RMA but NewEgg doesn't have a copy of my invoice for that order on file any more, hell they lost my entire personal record all the info that went with it. There is no way to 120 in there! The 80 I rigged is almost angled 45 degrees just to get it in there. Thanks.
