where to put keyboard + mouse?

i got a 6 year old computer, its an intel and theres no places in the back to plug in a mouse or keyboard. when i boot up it says "keyboard error or no keyboard". ive looked around a good bit and im stumped. sorry no pics

No ps2 ports then its super inlarged ps2 port (can't remeber name) you will need a converter...and if it doesnt have that...COM port keyboard...but damn if tis that old why use is it?

this is what the only spot in the back of the computer looks like and its a lot bigger than the plug on my keyboard. can i use a mouse with this computer? where can i get an adapter? thanks!

That's an AT keyboard plug. Check around computer or electronics stores, I've seen a place with a bin of 'em for like $.99 a piece.

Use a USB card for the mouse if you get the keyboard working, just go into BIOS and turn off "BIOS error on" and then deselect mouse, or something to that extent.

EDIT: Bahh... typed the wrong thing. That does explain a bit on that IM conversation last night. Jonny, I swear I knew it as kb the entire time, I just mistyped. I've got a couple of AT keyboards/puters idling around home.

Jc, I'm sure that's the kb socket ....

AMD - look for a 9 pin D socket for the mouse - basically rectangular (with angled sides), 3/4" long. You'll either need a mouse with a matching fitting, or a 9pin->PS2 adaptor to use a PS2 mouse.

I would go into more detail ... but I'm having a hard time not laughing at you youngin's not knowing this stuff

a 6 year old AT computer is quite rare - consider that is circa 1998, Id expect more ATX series than anything. Yeh you deffinantly need a PS2 to AT keyboard adater. As for the mouse I recommend you dig deep and try and find an original Serial mouse - the PS2 Serial adapter doesnt work for some mice.

You can buy old AT keyboards at any used parts store.
You are in Calgary right? Try Computer Surplus up on 32 ave NE.

As for a mouse, you need an old style serial mouse. Try the same store. Alternatively, you can buy a PS2 to serial mouse adapter.
