| Ok guys I am kinda worried. I changed out my cpyu. Went from a p4 2.0 gig to a p42.4 gig. My cpu temps were around 88 f and when I changed cpu's they jumped up around 15 degres. Is this normal? How much difference will artic silver 3 make if I add it? Are these acceptable for this chip? Should I change out the heatsink and fan? | ||

| Getting a new heatsink and fan can never hurt, and yeah you can see a big differance in heat the higher end the chip goes....going from 2.0 to 2.4 is a big jump, even tho is doesnt seem that way....and arctic silver 3 would help only if you dont have quality therm grease on it already....if its got the crap that came with the system...oh yeah youll see a differance...but last time i looked, i think toms hardware had a thermal grease round up not to long ago....and arctic silver 3 lowered the core temp by 7-10*C on AMD and P4 chips.....so it might be worth looking into... | ||

| no i just have the thermal pad that came with the p4 heatsink.I was thinking of the sunflower heatsink. and some thermal compound. but should I be worried about these temps I have right now or would it be ok to keep it going for a few months while I am gone.Or does anyone have any thermal compound to donate lol. ![]() | ||

| Bio, it isn't really that big a deal going from 2.0 to 2.4 gig, except.....if there is also a comensurate increase in the Voltage requirememnt. Yes, it's increased voltage that really adds some heat. That Zalman HS is a neat idea, but it will not perform without good case cooling and the truth is, if you do your case cooling right, and select a more standard HSF with the right fan on it then you won't be any louder then the Zalman, but you will still cool better. Think it through and you'll understand what I mean, even the Zalman, although it doesn't have a fan mounted on the HS, it does have one on a bracket so your not reall getting over here. A Thermalright SLK800 with a nice and still quite fan like an Enermax with manual speed adjustment, or just a basic 80mm that moves more CFM then it produces noice and stays at 30 - 34DB will be just as quiet. And you still need the case airflow. | ||

| Ok, just got in my SLK800, I gota say first off, she's a bad baby. I mean it's sweet, ambient here must be about 26C, nice and cool in the room, MBM reporting 35C at Idle. No load temps yet and the AS3 is still fresh. One issue, the way it uses clip springs to attach the fans makes it tough to use fan grills etc, that is unless your ready to mod. Of course moding is what were about, so I will have that led lit clear grill on once I get home to the tools. Choos ![]() | ||
