Default Hdd controller conflict

when a hard drive is connected to my controller it seems to create a conflict and will not boot my native SATA drive

Motherboard, ASUS: M4A785TD-V EVO
controller, this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816132004

I have tried various BIOS setting including disabling the drive on the controller as a boot device and cannot seem to get it going, its quite annoying, anybody know what to do?

One of the reviews I've read on this card is that it forces itself to become the primary boot device. You might be having that problem. Not sure of the solution ... depending on your BIOS options, you might be able to specify your distinct SATA drive as your boot device, rather than just leaving the boot option to "auto." What's your mobo / BIOS?

[edit: I see your mobo now ... let me get back to you.]

Okay, go into your BIOS and specify the Boot Priority for your system. You should be able to specify your SATA drive as being the boot device. (It's under the Boot tab in your BIOS. I've got your manual here in front of me.)

First test: Remove the controller card and boot using just your SATA drive.

Second test: put the controller card back in, without an add-on drive, and boot using your SATA drive (if you can).

Third test: attach the extra drive(s) to the controller. Boot to your BIOS, and ensure the Boot Priority remains with your SATA. Try booting to OS after that.
