| Nowadays, RAM available for a laptop is pretty much around the capacity as for a desktop. So with the ever increasing amount of stuff on modern motherboards, why don't they make more room by shrinking the size of RAM? You could double the amount of memory slots on a motherboard by using SoDIMMs instead of longer lengthed desktop RAM. What do you think? | ||

| Because the perforrmance of SoDimms suck generally. Plus you'd have to get a whole new standard written and it would wreak havoc with motherboards in general. And I can't really see there being that many advantages to it except on perhaps super tiny ITX mobos. | ||

| Dell in the sx260/sx270 line of very small desktops uses 2.5" hard drives and the same slim DVD-ROM drives they use in their laptops. The DVD-ROMs are even the same part - you could take on out of your DELL desktop and put it in your DELL laptop. The power supplys are also external bricks - like a laptop. But the memory is DIMM sticks, the mobo mini-AT [probably proprietary but about that size]?! So Dell went halfway. -MF | ||
