Default New motherboard problems...

Alright, I just bought a new motherboard, CPU, RAM, and video card...

The MOBO is a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2
CPU is an AMD64 X2 6000+
RAM is 4GB (2x2GB) of Corsair XMS2
Video card is a XFX Geforce 8800GS

Here's my problem...

I have everything plug in and set up. The computer tries to boot up, but continually beeps at me, and nothing posts.

I looked in the manual and it says that long continuous beeps mean that the video card isn't inserted correctly.

Ok, so I take it out and push it back in...still does the same thing. So, I take it out and try to use the on-board video. Still does the same thing.

The manual also says that short continuous beeps mean a power problem of some sort. I'm not certain but the beeps don't seem 'short' to me at all. Plus, I just bought a new PSU as well (Thermaltake 500W PSU).

I have no idea whats wrong...i don't know if the MOBO is shot...the video card is shot...or the PSU isn't powerful enough... any ideas?

First thing you want to do is reset the bios. That can be done with a jumper on the mobo. Next, use just one of your sticks of ram to see if the computer will boot. Report back.

BigAkita - Thanks man. Before I even saw your post, I decided to just use one stick of RAM and it booted up fine. Then, I put the other stick back in, and it again booted up perfectly. I must not have had it in correctly...

Installing Vista 64-bit now

What's funny (and totally awesome) is that I was really frustrated and my wife came in and said "Why don't you just take a break for a little while...the sort of things happen but after you take a break, you figure it out."

So, ate dinner and watched an episode of the Office, came back with a clear mind and BAM! Problem solved
