| The heatsink for my SiS730S southbridge just fell off my K7SEM motherboard. Will it overheat? How the **** did that happen? How the **** do I fix it? What the **** is going to happen? OH **** **** **** **** **** I'm in big ****ing trouble. | ||

| if your case isn't cooled i would imagine it would. Silcon Glue epoxy you could prolly find at a electronics or hardware store.. not sure how much though.. I can't answer for the audio and video unless its all onboard then it would prolly be that your chipset is damaged | ||

| you dont have to worry too much about the south bridge, they do not produce near the amount of heat that the north and CPU produce(there is not even a heat sink on many south bridges for example) but be sure this is the south bridge we are talking about. Just do like skate said and go down to you computer store and pick up a little of the stuff and reattach it. Most likely though your south bridge will not over heat without it, but better safe then sorry | ||

| Okay thanks guys. Well the SiS730S is the Southbridge am I correct? It's directly below the CPU slot. Its an Elitegroup K7SEM. Right now it is warm to the touch. I'm guessing its 40 Celcius which isn't too bad. I probably won't reattach it unless you guys suddenly tell me it is in fact the Northbridge. No its not onboard sound or video im using. Im using a Radeon 7500 brand new(2 months old) and a 5.1 Live Drive Platinum. The MOBO comes with onboard sound and video but I don't use it. And its the CPU heatsink that I sometimes cook soup and hotdogs on Skate, not the Southbridge(Maybe Northbridge???) heatsink as it is too small. It just feel off as I was listening to my music. Maybe my 250 watt woofer made it fall off??? I hope not. I have already wrecked one HD with this speaker system, which really pisses me off. | ||

| For some ****ed up reason I can only find one chip that would reasemble a Northbridge or a Southbridge and thats the chip the heatsink fell off. There are only a few other chips on the MOBO and they are all very small and rectangular and most of them are for the onboard crap such as the onboard LAN, etc. This is so ****ed up. Someone please explain where the **** everything is on this ****ty board. | ||

| Nevermind I realize why its 72 celcius, the fan is broken on the heatsink for the CPU. Thats pretty good that its staying at 72 celcius for over 10 minutes so far on an 800mhz AMD Duron. Sweet, I might be able to still use this baby without it. God, why the **** is the K7SEM such a MOFO MOBO? | ||

![]() Actully chiquita, i did a bit more looking, i wanst familer with that particular chipset, but that particular set, uses a intrgrated north and south bridge into one chip(similar to the SiS735 used in the K7S5A)...LOL i guess your really couldnt call it a chip"SET" then could you. So seeing as this is so, it would defiitly be advisable to reattach the heatsink, eventhough the SiS is notable for its low heat | ||

| ahhhh, its defitly a very likey posiblity, they will completly die at 90C, but the safe zone is well below 70, anything about 70 and you are risking certain thermal death, and defintly risking damage of all types, not only to your chip but you mobo if that thing starts to fry. So slap a fan on there, or for god sakes shut the thing off! | ||

| So would my North/South combo be ****ed up if I have both ****ed up sound and video? I thought it was IRQ conflicts but the problem appeared about a week ago out of the blue and I havn't changed any settings? Could my MOBO be failing? I guess it sorta is if the ****ing chipset heatsink falls off, hehe. | ||

| Okay I reversed the PSU fan to blow backwards but its working the chipset is cooler now and the CPU core is hovering at 60 celcius now. Is that good for now until I can get a replacement? And where the hell do I get that thermal glue thing in the city of Calgary where there is only 2 computer stores. AGHH I'm so ****ed, and I need to use this computer. | ||

| Sound and Video problems still persist and the Core is around 45-50 celcius and the Chipset is frezzing cold right now. I got the PSU running backwards and just turned around my outlet fan on the back. This will do for now I guess. So why would I have sound and video problems. The sound is all staticy and the video is all staticy but only on pictures and video. Its fine in windows though but everything else is messed up. I need this system to survive until the 25th of December and then it is going to my sister and I would feel bad if it broke before then. | ||

| 60C is better, but its still pushing the envolope on acceptable temps, you should be OK, but there's no guarentee it wont cause permanent damage. Anyway, you should be able to pick up thermoconductive glue at most hardware stores, if they dont carry it at you computer store. But your first priority must be to get a fan on that CPU!!! | ||

| Okay. Yeh 45 celcius now and still falling. I think I am going to keep the PSU reversed from now on. Damn I love Enermax Dual Fan PSU's. I will go get a fan first thing tommorow whenever my computer store opens. Would I be able to get the paste thing at Home Depot or something? What hardware stores sell that kind of stuff? Also about my sound and video, why are they stiticy? They have been like that for aobut a week and I'm worried my North/South Bridge Combo may have been damaged before the heatsink fell off? I am worried as I have to give this computer to my sister when I get my new KT333 MSI RAID USB 2.0 Board and Athlon XP 2600+. | ||
