| Probably been done/asked before, but here goes. What mobo should I get for a new system running a 2100+? Chipset: KT400 worth it? I hear its crap, and has "issues" Manufacturer: Uhm, I used to think soyo owned, but now I hear they suck. Asus is expensive and doesn't really have the frilly doo-dads for the price they're asking... Essentially what I want is this: Onboard LAN DDR 2700 support ATA133 + Raid controller | ||

| I have the new soyo kt400, and givin the chance to start over i would have gotten the abit max2. Not that the soyo is a bad board I just prefer abit over soyo. Personally I think all respectable boards are a good choice, just stick to your prefered brands and remember that with motherboards, you get what you pay for! | ||

| I recommend that you go for a SOYO board as my dad was had good results with SOYO in the past. Although SOYO is a relativly new company they are very good. I recommend that you try the SOYO Dragon KT333 board, thats what my dad has paired with two sticks of 256MB PC2700 I think. It's either 2100 or 2700. He has Athlon XP1800+, Radeon 8500 AIW and he gets a score of something like 9000 on 3DMark2001SE. Good luck and yeh the 400 is crap, avoid it until that sector matures a bit as it is still young. | ||

| Somewhere else in this forum I heard they were crap, but gigabyte is a brand I know, but don't trust (no exp. w/ them), but then again chaintech is an upstart newb compant.. BUT THE INC. ROUNDED CABLES KEEP LURING ME IN!!! Along with the gold everything on them. ![]() | ||

| Apex Techie Lite | although this is an older board, chaintech doesn't seem to rate favorably: Neither ECS nor Chaintech is known as a top motherboard company. This is certainly not because of their inability to make good products, but because they lack consistency in their product lines and usually concentrate on the OEM market as well. Although both companies have been known to design good motherboards, they have not been able to get favorable reviews on a regular basis, as is the case for Asus, Gigabyte, or MSI, for instance. | |

| Uhm, all I'm really looking for is a stable board that can oc decently so I can try that out for once, maybe, and has onboard lan and raid... I'd be getting an audigy xgamer anyway( yes I realize the only dif between the audigy versions is a bundle, but I need new games anyway). And I'm not too sure about KT400 until I read at least one positive review of them, which I haven't seen from anywhere. | ||

| I have an apogee 7vjl. it is a badass board with tons of OC potential, (currently have 1600 athlon running at 2100 speeds, folding 24/7 with air cooling and no heat issues, capable of cranking out 13k 3dmark 2001 scores) however i recommend paying 10 dollars more for the apogree deluxe, it has a working 1/5 divider and confirmed support for barton. it is a kt400 board. best value for the money IMHO and for those who said chaintech were not reputable, its because they are a small company, they dont have the marketting clout of asus or others, but their product is top notch from what ive seen, and you get a free distro of linux and rounded cables and the cbox and nifty headphones and all kinds of shiz. i love it =) | ||

| Well, its nice to know someone in this forum has one so I know at least one person in the community who has one and likes one.... rather than a, "OMG WHO R THEY" or a, "WTF THOSE BOARDS ARE CRAP SHAME ON YOU" Last edited by TheOutcast; 28-October-02 at 09:10 PM.. | ||

Oh I know that, I'm just looking at future upgradability, possible OC, and something I won't have to replace quickly.. | |||||||||||||||||||||
