Default agp pro and agp4/8x? help please

i just bought a wildcat 4210 for 3d modelling and i realized that it requires an agp pro slot. what is the difference between that and a 4x slot and would an 8x slot be compatible with an agp pro card? thanks for the help

An AGP Pro slot is AGP4x or 4x/8x, and has no notches so that it will allow an AGP Pro card to be installed (AGP Pro video cards, usually cad cards, requires that there are notches in the slot).

It won't work, unless the mobo has an AGP 4/8x Pro slot on it.

Tek you are not totally correct.

An agp pro slot is a normal 4x/8x slot that is extended to the front (bracket side). This extension is for power, it allows the card to draw much more power (50w i believe). A standard card will work in a pro slot, but a pro card will not necesarally work in a standard slot (it might, im not 100% sure)

In that pic is an agp pro slot. the area covered by the yellow sticker is the extension.

I left out that detail, M.D.K.

If you motherboard has an AGP slot like the one above, it will work. Otherwise, e.g. it has noches, no.

In my experience, an AGP Pro card will not fit into a standard AGP slot.

As far as AGP 4x/8x, that's just a data transfer specification - how fast information is transferred between the northbridge of the motherboard and the graphics card. Higher is generally preferred, but there's little if any performance difference between 4x and 8x (at least for now).

Long story short: you need an AGP Pro slot to run an AGP Pro card (like your Wildcat).
