Default Abit NF7-S V2 problems

ok i just hooked my NF7-S V2 in my pc and connected everything again but to my suprise when i fired it up there were 2 lights lit up towars the bottom of the mobo where the LED, power, reset, hdd led...cables go. One was red and one was green. what do these lights mean? Also, I installed my ATI Raedon 9800XT drivers and everything was ok but then i installed the nForce2 drivers and my display wouldnt work past the XP screen. Is this because the nForce 2 Drivers are for some sort of onboard video card? And thats why my display is not working? Another problem when loading the nForce drivers was that it said the certain file didnt match windows logo testing or something and they said that was unstable. Whats the problem, and how do i fix it? And another thing...i had my broadband cable plugged into the rear of the mobo and it didnt recognize a connection to the internet. Im connected to a router and it should just plug and play right? please let me know before 3rd period comp sci is over...lol thx

The nForce2 drivers are for the on board video - thats was a no no.......that was your problem with the video. The driver not being certified is a pretty normal thing, alot arent and most are just fine. About your broadband connection - did you install the drivers for the NIC on the motherboard?. If so does it show its working in device manager? On the lights I will look that up but you really should consider reading the manual - it just might help.

I would suggest going into the bios and disable all the onboard stuff that you dont plan on using
and if you are using on board LAN then you definatly need to install the drivers for it before you will be able to connect to the net.

Well now that I look closer I dont think there is on board video on that board. I believe your nForce drivers you were speaking of might be the chipset drivers for the motherboard. If so those should be installed FIRST (in my opinion). If TekXoID were here he could enlighten us more......

Hey there...aaronrkelly

Those lights you are refering to are the Power and Post leds. They let you know that there is power to the board (red led) and the (green led) one tells you there is no errors during startup of the computer.

As for the nforce drivers they are the for south bride and north bridge chipset, they also can be used for the IDE interface.

As for the LAN, I had problems with my revision 1.0 NF7-S board too... I could use the lan on the board only if I connected directly to the modem and nothing else...

If I add a seperate lan card and disable that one on the board I then could connect the router and share my connections...

My other suggestions is that if you are not using the LAN or Serial ATA then disable them in the bios.

Tek is another person to ask about this board because she has v2.0 as well..

Good luck and much success with it, I like mine, just wish I had the 400 FSB instead of 333...

hey nismo...i've never spoken with you before. nice to meet ya, and nice name btw

I was wondering if you disabled all of your integrated peripherals in the bios? You should do that first off. Go into bios and select integrated periphs...then disable the audio, since you certainly dont need it. Disable anything else that you will not use. They will only confuse the system when you try to install the other drivers for the Audio card, vid card etc. I'm sorry to explain it like this but i'm not sure how aware of the bios you are. Also that disk for sata...dont worry about it cause if you aren't using it then make sure it's disabled in the bios as well. It prolly is by default but double check it to be sure. and you really should consult the manual for some stuff. It'll tell you all aobut hose lights, and it'll answer alot of questions before you even get started.

I use the NF7-S v2.0 in my system. I use a Visiontek GeForce4 ti4600 for video. I have never had a problem with the nvidia nForce drivers. They are indeed for the chipset, to include the onboard audio, lan, drive controllers, etc. If you use your own audio card, go to the integrated peripherals section of the bios and disable the onboard audio. The Audigy might give you better framerates because it processes the audio by itself rather than the main processor doing any audio chores.

I have read that the onboard nforce2 audio is quite comparable up until you get to the Audigy 2 series as far as sound quality goes. I have the onboard audio hooked up to Klipsch 5.1's and it rocks. I never before used onboard audio because it always sucked donkey nuts, but not anymore. I also use the onboard lan, also without any problems, hooked up through a router. You might also get better framerates with a higher-end lan card from 3com or something. Just disable the onboard lan if you do. It just saves IRQs and resources.

Check your video card to see if it's completely seated in the agp slot. They can be stubborn when they are new. You might try using safe mode to boot up and reinstall your video card's drivers. I also heard a rumor that ATI cards don't always cooperate with an Nvidia motherboard, but it shouldn't make a bit of difference.

And DO NOT install the nvidia SW IDE drivers(the nvidia installation will pop this up during installation) on this board, use the nforce drivers off of the CD, not the one off the nvidia site.

Also for a freshly installed copy of XP, install in the following order;

chipset drivers
video drivers (In some cases DX9 has to be installed first)
audio drivers
anyother drivers/programs

This imho, is the best way to go

hey, nice to meet you too cog Thanks for the advice..im going to do the reinstall and follow the steps that hawk suggested. I will Disable the onboard audio however and the seta for now ... (desperately awaiting WD Rapotrs ...mmmmm). I will then hopefully post my first post on the new machine tonight at 9 after SAT class... talk to ya then.

O ya another weird thing happened when i was working in the BIOS. It had the cpu speed set to 2600+ and i have the 3200+, so i changed it as well as the AGP transfer rate to 8x and the agp aperature settings to 256mb. Was this unwise? plz let me know...talk to ya guys later

about that clock on the processor you need to change the FSB to whatever the fsb rating was on that core when you bought it i.e. 333 or 400 which means set your FSB for 166 or 200 respectively. This should show the proper clock.

and I"m not too clear on the whole graphics aperture size thing.

I run my aperture at 256MB, BF1942 loads in five to ten seconds this way.

Setting AGP to 8x was unwise though, I have a 9800XT and I can vouch for that. Not a single game out today takes advantage of AGP8x and it has only worsened stability/decreased performance for me.
Leave fastwrites off too, I know they sound good, but the performance increase is not noticeable.
