Question Nf7-s and RAM over 3200

Ok hate to say it but it seems alot of ppl have this setup or similar
amd 2400 or 2500
nf7-s
a hard drive (who would have guessed)
pc????
WTF the manual says Pc 3200 if i'm not mistaken. WHY is it that ppl have 3500 ram in it i just don't get it, and if the RAM runs synched with your CPU (it should run at 333 stock if you have the 2500, atleast mine does) what way would it help? i mean with my 3200 it can go to ddr400 but the cpu would have to go faster than what it is at to do that...

it is for overclocking headroom...I agree that the sweet spot is having your ram and cpu in sync and if you want to oc and runn 400fsb and higher you need ram that will match it..

What if your 2500+ Barton is running 11x215 instead of 11x166? Then what ram would you choose?

Like many of the choices we make, it is all about the OC Big Deuce.

Ok i was just wondering cause the mobo doesn't say it supports it. kinda funny ya know. It kinda seems like putting a amd 64 in a xp board it doesn't support it so how does it work. But hey if it works, it works just was wondering how.

It works because the pins are the same and the tranfer system is the same... if someone tried to put in sdram in it however that is where you would get the confilct. The ram will just make itself run slower if its too fast for the mobo and as you OC the ram will speed up as the board speeds up. Hope that clears it up!

Well, I ran a few test to show you the difference with Sisoft Sandra

The memory timings were set to 3-3-5-8 for all tests. (High FSB must use loose timings)

Results from 402FSB at 1912mhz

Ram Init bandwidth=2765
Ram Float bandwidth=2505

Results from 477FSB at 1908mhz

Ram Init bandwidth=3349
Ram Float bandwidth=2945

I tried to get them at the exact same speed of 1908MHZ, but this is close enough to make my point, even with 4mhz more speed, 402FSB is way down on memory bandwitdth compared to 477FSB

So just because AMD says it only supposed to support 400FSB, that doesn't mean that it won't do a bit more...

That is why I am using Geil DDR500 in mine

Is your nf7-s the revision 2.0 board? If im not mistaken, only the rev 2.0 officially supports 400mhz FSB and mem speeds.

And like Solid said, just becase it says it supports something, doesnt mean it cant go past it

In my thread here, got some RAM benchie from Sisoft, my PC2100 DDR is running at 430mhz DDR

Go here -> http://forums.pcapex.com/showthread.php?t=13002# to see me pics if ya dont beleive me.
