Default Computer random reboot/power surge

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! my cpmputer has been randomly making the sound the powersupply makes at startup, nothing seems to happen for about 10sec, then comp freezes. no power is lost to anythign i can see (my led fans stay on durng and after surge). what do you think it is? this happens oc and no oc. hte temps are fine also.

300W solarmax powersupply (came with case)
xp 1900+
GA-7VAXP mb
WinXP Pro
WD 40Gig 2MB Cache 7200RPM

Cheap powersupply. Replace ASAP or you could lose some components.

Your PSU makes a noise at startup/reboot Demon ? Are you talking about the "clunk" the relay makes?

Regardless, I think Sliders diagnosis is spot on - the PSU sounds like a weak link to me. Have you got a good one (from another rig) you can swap out & try?

I had a similar problem with my 400Mhz Compaq...I ended up setting it on file and driving over it with a snowmobile. :S

Just replace the power supply like everyone has stated. Be prepaired to spend atleast $50....Much cheaper then replacing your whole system if it gets fried.
