Default help! nforce chipset driver problem

So I just upgraded my system with a new mobo, chip, and memory. actually 'upgrade' might be too weak a word because all i really kept was my video card and hd. anyway, yesterday i realized that my agp 4x graphics card was running in pci mode. eww. i had forgot to install the chipset drivers that came with my shuttle an35-400 motherboard. so i went to the shuttle site to DL the latest drivers for this board. one reboot later my card was running in agp 4x mode and all seemed well.

the problem is that ever since i installed the nforce chipset drivers, all of my games crash. sometimes they crash to the desktop in a friendly way that generates an error message. or sometimes they take the whole system down with them. but they always crash. usually within a minute of play. the only good news is that i get about 10 fps better in the games thanks to the driver...

later i even tried the latest nforce driver from the nvidia site. but i got even WORSE results with that. windows 2000 hung on boot. obviously, i'd like to run my card in agp mode since its performance is kind of sucky in pci mode... if i could get that good performace AND be able to play my games thatd be great. anyway here's my system:

AMD Athlon XP 2500+ CPU
Shuttle AN35-400 Motherboard (with nvidia Ultra 400 nforce2 chipset)
nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 128MB Graphics Card
1GB DDR 2700 RAM
SoundBlaster 16 Sound Card

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Wow that realy blows dood. Im not sure what you can do, besides a reformat/install, and the first thing to install is the chipset drivers.

I have the same exact setup except I have a GF4MX (got it for free from a friend and hate it) and had the same exact probelm, games would crash after a minute or two of play. When I removed the soundcard for and used the onboard sound everything worked fine.

ok i took out my soundcard last night, but it only helped a little. now the crashes take a little longer to occur, and generally are cleaner - they dont take the whole system with them. but i'm still only talking about like 10 minutes of game play max.

dont have any app to tell me that kind of stuff right now. but this card put in a good, well-behaved 18 months in my prior comp (a tight little compaq too, not very good ventilation) with hardly any crashes... so i dont think it's an overheating problem. worth a shot though i suppose.
