| I got a problem with my MSI-Board MS-6703 v.2 - namely it's doing nothing but clicking... I got it hooked up to my new PSU, a DVD drive and HDD, got it all powered up and it was only clicking. Only a little later it occured to me, it started clicking when I plugged the PSU in - as soon as it had power it clicked. I also had a LED-fan in there and the fan glowed a little brighter and ran a little faster (and the HDD LED lit up when a HDD was connected) when I pushed the power switch. The mobo was still clicking. A little slower, but still clicking (and nothing else). I am totally clueless. Is the mobo dead? ![]() I found a manual online but nothing about clicking. | ||

| The clicking might either be a sound from the hard drive or a legitimate concern over the status of the motherboard, because some electrical errors produce clicking noises. Try to test one peice of equipment separate from the other to narrow out the culprit. | ||

| Thanks for your help. The clicking came from the speaker-element (= dampened when I covered the element). Unless my bios beeping was reduced to clicks so, no beep-code. @whatthe2600?: I'm quite sure it was a constant(!), fast (2-4x per second, later 1-2x) clicking. AND it started as soon as I connected the PSU to the mobo, not when I tried to start the computer (as I'm used to). @Hibiki: Disconnecting everything (save the PSU ) didn't resolve the problem. I tested the DVD drive and HDD via IDE-to-USB (both were fine), I have no other PSU to test the mobo with, nor a different processor. So, for the moment I'm f-... you know what I mean... | ||

I tried removing the battery and clearing the bios, it's still clicking miserably. And it's getting slower and slower. Could it be that the battery is so low that the BIOS can't even start up or something? The board and battery are 4-5 years old and have just been lying around for a good 6 months (when the former PSU died). I'll try getting a new battery. I still doubt it's the PSU because it's brand new and works fine on the 12V connectors. (Granted, I sleeved it and changed the connectors, but I did it "pin-by-pin" so there shouldn't be any problems there.) As I have no other CPU lying around I can't check that either... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
