| I just bought a AMD 2400+ "Thorton" proc. and replaced my 1700+ proc with it. I cleared the cmos and tried to boot up my comp, Fans start spinning everything lights up right, Escept my monitor it stays black. I was thinking to myself "NO WAY I JUST MESSED UP MY NEW VIDEO CARD! " so i proceeded to replace my video card with an old one that i had use before and was in perfect condition, same results. so i switched out the procs and put in the old on, Boom boots up perfect, shut that down and put in my new video card, and still works great. BUT I STILL HAVE THE BLACK SCREEN WITH THE NEW PROC!!!! sorry i just had to let that one loose. I need advice could it be that i received a dead proc from newegg? or something else? ![]() | ||

| Well, it's rare, but if you cleared the CMOS and nothing... Do you hear the hard drive spool up? the HD indicator light stays dark too? Does it do anything at all? (CPU fan?) Is the Bios up to date? Maybe it's not seeing the Thorten style CPU (I seriously doubt that though) | ||

| Yeah it is a NF7-s and everything seems to work fine except that the screen is blank. also i can't hear any pc beeps cause i broke the little case speaker (if there is a beep i should be looking out for). I just bought my mobo so the bios should be up to date, but if not how can i update it (NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE, need step by step instructions, like on mapquest.....1. reverse out of your driveway, 2. turn your whell 180 degrees counter clockwise.....) | ||

| Well, I thought recently I toasted something, but the beep codes said AGP card. I checked, and the card wasn't seated right. (Took a little filing to the AGP card to make the Clip stay on and not pop off) So if the speaker is broke, you can't tell if it's Beeping, or just dead... You could make another temporay speaker connection using an old connector, and a spare speaker. (Use the connector from the case if you don't have spares) 300 watts is enough for your new CPU, but the Abit's do have an extra place for a P-4 connector that gives it more power. It's a white 4 Pin Molex, right next to the regular large power supply connector on the board. Newer power supplies have the P-4 connector, so it depends on how old your PSU is, check and see. It should be used from what I have read, since it will definetly help for overclocking. I never tried running mine without it, but your old Palimino works... so who knows till you try it? Edit: And BTW, go to the Abit websight, they have Download for a program that lets you update your bios through Windows XP. Go to the Download section (Under Support) Find your version NF-7S (Rev 1or 2 wichever you have, it should be2, but look on the board) and install. It takes you through it pretty easy, and is self explanitory (Peice o' Cake) The other way is with a Floppy disk, but it's a pain in the.... ![]() Last edited by $SOLID$ Necro; 18-December-03 at 01:30 AM.. | ||

| I would try to get access to another Socket 462 PC to test the proccessor to be absolutely sure before shipping it back. If it is indeed DOA, at least get the people you bought it from to have shipping reimbursement in the form of store credit, and get a Barton 2500+. ![]() | ||
