Default Recommend MB for my Sexy Beast, Excalibur.

Working on cases 24/7 has me out of touch with lastest MB offerings.

Heres my only criteria (so far)

1) 64FX board would be nice, but is it too early for any solid recommendations? I'm open to a P4 board w/ 800FSB
2) Must have Black PCB
3) 4 socket hold downs would be nice.
4) Good Overclocker, but not a neccessity

It will utilize a Aqua-Computer waterblock from Wizard Designs cause Richard Pugh is a good friend and offered to sponser me.

Its for this rig, Excalibur worklog

Yea, for your criteria the Abit IC7-Max 3 with 2x512mb PC-4000 Corsair XMS and a P4 will go far; here some proc ideas if you dont have any;
2.4 ghz P4 800mhz FSB.... awesome OCer with FSB going beyond 300mhz and core beyond 3.6 ghz... 12x multiplier

2.6 ghz P4 800mhz FSB..... about $20 cheaper than the 2.4 b/c its not as famous an OC'er but with a 13x multiplier it can still go far

3.2 ghz P4 800mhz FSB Extreme Ed..... Fastest proc out there but it costs $1000...

If you're looking at a Athlon 64 FX board, the Leadtek K8NW looks good. I would still go with the Max3, though.

Still way too early to pick the best board for 64FX. Asus SK8V is black and it's got the early lead chipset...Via. That could change with new nforce drivers. And SiS may bump both out of the top spot.

The Abit IC7-Max 3 is a probably a safer choice at present.

Lightbulb well

I just happen to have noticed this thread and am currently looking to build a new computer. What would you recomend if I don't particularly care about 64 bit shiznaw? And would I be better off going for Intel or AMD, keeping in mind this is my first home built system?

The Abit IC7 Max3 is for an Intel P4 processor, it has the 875 chipset...

For AMD the Abit NF7-S
