Default new computer problem..again..

just got an Evga 680i motherboard and over a 3 day process I finally got the pc installed, only problem is when it boots up... my keyboard isnt working! The usb slot has power and they keyboard lights up yet I can't enter the bios or boot order menu, none of the keys are working. They keyboard I was using is the one I am typing on right now. Here is what the pc looks like when it boots up:

Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Copyright (C) 1984-2003, Phoenix Technologies, LTD

(6A61ITT2) Release number 691N0P27
NVIDIA BIOS Version: 2.053.76
Main Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU 600MHz(66x9.0)
Memory Testing : 2096128K OK
CPU Brand Name: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @2.40GHz
C1E BIOS SUPPORTED
EM64T CPU

Press DEL to enter SETUP, ESC to Enter Boot Menu
04/01/2007-122-CK-NF68-6A61ITT2C-00

And the machine just stays like that at that screen indefinately. What I am wondering is, do I have to install usb drivers before the usb ports work properly on the machine? Or should they be working out of the box? I really hope the motherboard isn't shot because I have just gone through replacing 2 boards already.

System specs:

Intel Q6600 core2 quad
2x 1gb OCZ DDR2 memory
Thermalright Ultra 120 heatsink
Nvidia 8800GTS video card.

I'm fairly sure you need to use your ps2 keyboard , go into windows install the usb drivers THEN reboot with the USB keyboard installed.

Not 100% sure but , unless your USB drivers are installed , I dont think the ports work.

Also , if using XP , make sure and UPDATE w/SP2 first otherwise the drivers wont take for the USB 2.0

Here's what you need to do.....

Use a ps2 keyboard or a usb to ps2 adapter on your usb keyboard to get into the bios....
Under intergrated perpherials select usb config menu

You need to enable onchip usb with keyboard and mouse support.....

Save and Exit

That should do it!

Usb will work in dos and the bios as long as its enabled in the bios. Otherwise htrn is correct that you'll need to install sp2 in order to get usb 2.0 working in windows.

Enjoy your new PC!!!!!!!!!!

Drivers, Drivers......We dont need no stinkin' Drivers! LOL

Ok what I did was popped out the bios memory and put it back in, pc booted up and everything seemed to be working fine, so I went into the bios and made sure everything was enabled...etc. Clicked on save & exit and bam, nothing worked again. So now I am gonna attempt to install the latest bios drivers from the eVGA website using an ISO on a disk. Hopefully that will work. On another note my core temp was 42c with the case panel on and 38c with the case panel off :O that seems kind of hot for not putting alot of strain on the cpu.

It seems to me like the computer just stops booting at a certain point.

OK I figured out the problem, thanks to Cpt. Planet for all the help, I needed to enter custom memory timings and voltages in order for the computer to boot. It's formatting now and I can't wait for it to be ready

Ok the project is finally complete! Only problems I am having are, GPU running at 61c and HDD running at 66c, dunno how to fix those, or if they are even out of the ordinary. CPU at load is reading out at 41c which seems to be ok. Thanks a lot to everyone who helped me out with this, here it is!

I have a couple of sugguestions......

First off the hard drives are stacked on top of each other. This will give you higher than normal temps since there is minimal space between drives to expel heat. One thing you should do is use the 5 bay hard drive rack on the bottom and split the drives with a space between them.

If i recall there are 2 80mm fans blowing directly into the hard drive enlosure. This should make a difference in hard drive temps and allow them to breathe.

Second, the fan that's on the side cover door by the gpu. It should be blowing into the case. Since, air outside the case is cooler than inside. If its blowing in the opposite direction flip it around and recheck your temps.

I hope that helps.....

Yeah the side fan is an intake, I moved one of the drives to the upper bay and the same drive is still running @ 66c. Dunno why because the other drive is running at 30c
