Default Everthing....stops?

After playing 2 hours of bf42 just fine, the monitor turns off (not off, but to an idle state) and the computer looks like it is processing something. I turn it off, restart it, and the exact same thing happens. I don't see anything on the monitor, and the computer is unable to boot up. I tried resetting the bios and it still persists.

Do you guys have any ideas on how this could have happened? I've had problems with the processor before (over heating), but just friday night I checked the temperature and it was at 38c. I turned up the cpu fan (Thermaltake Volcano 12) almost to it's max speed and left it like that for a few hours (until the computer died). Any help?

ok, so upon more inspection, I hear a rattling sound from the processor and/or the heatsink. I turn on the power, everything starts, but no signal, and still both the power and activity light on the front are both lit. It can't be the mobo, because nothing would turn on if it was fried. Is this correct?

Sounded like an overheat issue when I first read it, but if you're sayin it's at 38C, I guess thats not it. You should try and make sure that you have the HSF seated correctly.

EDIT: Yeah, I just saw that last messageyou posted. Try and make sure that the heatsink is mounted correctly and that the fan works. And I think it would still turn on if the CPU is fried. Do you smell anything?

Well, when I first built the machine, the cpu was running really hot (80c+). I was a total newb about installing the heatsink and thermal, but now I know how to set it up right.

The cpu has been the only problem with the computer and I've had plently of chances for it to burn itself out. I guess I'll have to invest in another cpu. bah.

Physically inspect the core and try a friends CPU before you go spend money on a new one

I was going to spend money on a new 2500 Barton anyways... I looked at it yesterday and the core looked darker then it normally was.
