Default making the switch

As now all my parts are in i am going to be going to a Nforce 590 SLI DFI mobo tomarrow. I have 2 74gb raptors in my current machine in Raid 0. OS is XP Pro. my current board is a Nforce 3 based gigabyte, and i am using the nvidia raid controller. i will list system specs at the end. My question is will i have to reformat my drives when i make the switch if i use the DFI's nVidia raid controller or can i get away with just making the switch? i dont really want to reinstall everything that i have taken 2 years getting just right.

Old system
Opty 146 CAB2E
Gigabyte K8NSC-939 NF3
1gb Mushkin XP4400 tccd
Radeon 9800XT (the x850XT has a water cooling failure read: card got wet)
2 74gb raptors in raid 0
1 250gb WD PATA storage
Enermax 550watt PSU (older than dirt)

New System
AMD X2 3800
DFI Lanparty UT NF590 SLI-M2R/G
2gb Corsair XMS ddr2 800
2 eVga 8800 GTS 320's
Moving raptors & Storage
Addtional 250gb WD SATA
Enermax Max Plus 650watt PSU
DD watercooling

Any help, or tips you can share will greatly appericiated!!

Charlie

EDIT: I just got done making a drive image of my raptors. here is my thought. If i install windows on a crap drive, install r-drive image (my program i used) then install the raptors in RAID then using the crap drive, image the RAID, then repair install over that... do you think it will work?

Assuming what you did was ran the raid in the old system first then made a ghost image of the drives to dvd....then I dont see why you cant re-stripe the discs in the new setup and run the program again in the new system and reinstall the new image in the new system. Theoretically isnt that what ghost programs are designed to do?

However, most the benefit in building new systems is loading new operating systems nice and clean with little crap. Load the minimum. Its been a long time since you have used most of that stuff. If I remember correctly you were complaining last time that you had multiple copies of the same pictures in different directories. This is the time to play system clean up. Save the necessary stuff, reload the current apps you like, save the emails you like to gmail (if you need an invite let me know), or save the outlook or outlook express backups) save my documents, your favorites, and run a new system load....all the other utilities are surely new since you have last used them...
DO THE RIGHT THING!
GO FOR THE CURRENT...
Make this a kick ass gaming machine...

Ricer's put Type R stickers on their cars because it makes their cars go faster. Ricers are idiots.

I know bro, I don’t take offence. I know Intel is faster. I bought AM2 because I had 500 bucks to play with at first. My first order was for a MSI K9 Neo-f or something, Corsair Memory, 1 8800GTS 320 and an x2 3800. On ZipZoomFly with free shipping it was 499.37. Then I asked real nice to the ol' lady if I could spend a little more. Well thank you paypal buyer credit... with that extra 500, I bought another 8800 GTS and that DFI mobo, along with some kickass Sony wireless headphones, and some AS5. That came to 499.57 with shipping. So you can see that at first I was just trying to get something that would play current games. Then when the bonus cash came in to play, I went with a better board, but since I already had AM2 stuff on the way, I decided to stick with it. The extra 8800 was just a bonus. But since I have people here that I hold close, I am getting a smoking deal on a C2D Intel and an awesome Mobo... so I am getting to Core2, just in a round about way. But yes I know that Intel is the beez neez. But when you are broke and trying to play games you have to go where your wallet allows you to go. In this case it was AM2. Am I upset that I went that way? Nope, In fact I should just keep it for a year, then get quad core Intel. But I have things in the works now that I am not going to stop. I am not going to try to take any scores like I have done in the past. I just wanna have a current computer that I can have fun with, and be proud of. Be it Intel or AMD. I will be happy either way. Well enough of my babbling.

That about sums it up.....lol

Seriously though....

His decision wasn't so bad...
You all thought I was nuts back when I bought the 930D and the Crossfire cards when the 939 and the SLI was so popular...And you know what? I never had so much fun and a more reliable system for gaming. That thing didn't score the best on benchmarks and wasn't the best bang for my buck, but I had fun being different. To each his own I say. Someone has to buy the competition. If they don't they won't keep developing new products and then you won't be enjoying this nice price war. You could be buying only intel someday when AMD flounders belly up....then what will you do? You should be thanking Chrome... for taking a chance on the other side...

I think he made a good choice for the money he had...and besides...The video cards are DROOL!!!!

When he had 500$ to work with, I made him cancel an order that was some hardware to use his old 939 CPU...he also had a 1950XT or some old DX-9 card like that on the way

I showed him for the same bucks he could go AM-2 Dual Core and 8800GTS...at least that would have an upgrade path

If I would have know he had more money on the way...we would have gone straight to Core 2 Duo, for 1k we coulda built a 266$ Quad Core (At the end of July) and got the 640MB versions of the GTS..but I allready told him this the other day when we were talking about the latest tech...

That is part of the reason I went with AM2 to begin with as well (although I researched the early mobos LOTS before choosing what has turned out to be one of the best still to date after the first BIOS update), the other part being we needed to have someone with AM2 hardware to review platform-specific hardware..... and I was itching to spend the money anyway, just before Conroe was released.
I ain't complaining a bit. I have had fun with it, learned more about overclocking (had never owned a 64 bit platform previously) CPUs/RAM, and got a few hwbot records in the process (still hold the one in my sig).

Besides, I am piecing together a Conroe rig now to sit beside the AM2 one.

Edit: For some reason my sig is no longer showing my X2 Brisbane record for PCMark05...

When I picked up my rig last summer AM2 was by far the best bang for the buc. I got a Sempron 2800 and mobo for under $130. It wasn't much but it was a lot better than having to use someone else's computer.
