| Apex Techie I | So ive been loooking at alot of RAM on newegg.com and seen some good ram here and there but what do some of you guys recommend. I will be getting a Intel duo 6600 and a 1950xtx, motherboard is still in the air also but will probably have the 965 975 or 975x chipset. Any reccommendations would be nice. OCing would be nice. | |

| Ok well your going to want something DDR2 800mhz or higher for a Core 2 if you plan on overclocking at all.. Becuase an eazy overclock with a core 2 is 400Mhz Ext clock And with a E6600 with a 9x400 Mhz is something like that gives ya 3.6Ghz thats a nice overclock.. I dont know if the E6600 is a 9X or a 8.5 hummm anyone??But anyways enough about that... Lets get to the ram! 1st on my list! Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail = GSkill 2gbHZ I own this ram and it kicks some major azz man! Will run 3-3-3-8 at 400Mhz @ 2.3- 2.4 Volts A little high but alot of ppl run it.. I myself am just starting have some problems with it tho i think i just got a bad set! And Gskill is going to send me a new set when im ready to RMA 2nd Newegg.com - SUPER TALENT 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail = Super Talent Pretty much the same as the Gskill based off the same chips (Micron D9's) and some on the same pc board! And also will do 3-3-3-8 at 400Mhz DD2 800 but sometimes with less voltage then the Gskill so thats a good thing! Also OCZ and i hear that Geil has some nice stuff as well! But both rams that i just listed above will run DD2 1066 with a little bit of voltage and still good timings of 4-4-3-12 sometimes.. Hope that helps ya out a little bit Matt Last edited by MaTtsPc; 20-December-06 at 12:57 AM.. | ||

Both of the sets of ballistix are over 300 bucks too! If you looking for ram under 300us i guess i would run the super talent you not going to get anybeter! Like i said the the post above it will run DDR2 1066 with eaze! And with good timings Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg) That ram does look pretty nice too by the way! So keep it in mind aswell its a little over 300 but it still loooks damn good! Nice find zaltan! matt | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| How much do you want to spend. I got my E6300 running at 3.2 with Corsair PC 8500. But it's $366 for 2x1GB at Newegg. Newegg.com - CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail | ||

| Apex Techie I | Thanks for all the posts sorry it took a while to get back, the cost of the ram doesnt matter to much just so its not insane. I'm more then willing to pay 300$ for a set of 1 gigs. Also i got some extra from a package deal from intels retail edge. Vista ulitmate, 6300 duo, and a DG965WH intel MOBO, all for the low low cost of 220$. Anyway money isnt a big issue. The ram zaltan linked are pretty damn nice. I 2 gigs of corsairs XMS 3200 right now and i like them. good brand so far... | |

| Though that sounds like a barigain for the CPU and Mobo..if you are planning to OC..I don't think that board can! You could probably start with that package, and sell off the board at a later time. Best bargains are the Gigabyte DS-3, or the ASUS P5B for around 100-130$ since they will both reach 450-500FSB...even Biostar has one that does 500FSB for 100$! Having 300$ ram is a waste IMO for a budget build, there are plenty of Quality 667 and 800 kits for around 200$ that will do the job quite nicely, and will OC nicely with relaxed timngs, a slight bump in voltage (Around 2.2-2.3v) You can also use a bigger memry divider if the ram doesn't hit massive FSB speeds...Intel isn't as sensative to memory performance as AMD..sure there will be a silght performance penalty, but the money would be better spent on going to a e6400, E6600 or on the Motherboard or even Grpahcs card! When it comes to budgeting a PC, my priorities are typically: 1. Graphics Card 2. Power supply 3. Motherboard 4. CPU 5. Ram Now this may seem odd...but there is a method to my madness! The graphics card is going to generally have the biggest noticable efect in gaming, and the power supply is utmost for stable operation. The motherboard is next, since you want something that allows a bit of OC headroom while being rock solid releiable..Asus is almost always my first choice in that dept. CPU..well if you can afford the 6400 over a 6300, then you will be happy, OC'd or not, but as long as you get up in the 3GHZ range with it, it should be plenty! Ram..as long as you have QUANTITY (2x1gb) and QAULITY name brand parts, the speeds and timings are kinda secondary..the framerate difference in most typical games at average settings are going to vary no more than 10FPS between low end 533 and 1066 ram! 667 or 800 will be no more than 5FPS or so...is that worth an extra 100$? not IMO! I would much rather see that 100$ go divided into better CPU, Mobo, and graphics card..chances are you will make up for it or do even better when it all shakes down. | ||
