Default memory timing help

Ok so I built a new pc about 2 days ago, got it fired up and running and now I'm ready for the task of tweaking it a bit. I got a core 2 duo 6600, Asus p5b mobo, and 2 gigs of Corsair xms ddr2 800 (6400C4PRO). So with the bios auto detecting the ram with SPD on, it is currently booting at 5-5-5-18. I went into the bios, disabled SPD, and changed it to 4-4-4-12. The ram I purchased was designed to run at 4-4-4-12. This resulted in the pc crashing repeatedly and applications loading incredibly slow. I searched for about an hour and I havent managed to figure out what the problem is yet. I updated the bios and nothing changed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I won't lie I dont know a great deal about Ram timings. Perhaps there is some other setting I need to change?

I would say you need to raise the voltage a bit above stock, I am not sure what defaultis, but it needs to bumped 1 or 2 notches...let me check around and i'll be back in a minute to edit if I find anything.

EDIT: it looks like XMS is rated for up to 2.1v, this is not your exact model, but it still should be safe at that voltage. This article may be of some help in a general way

EDIT 2:

Here is one article on your ram

I find myself agreeing with Mr Solid again. You've probably got your DDR2 set at 1.8v's, I believe thats stock. So set it to 2.1v, and you should be fine.
