Default memory suggestion please

Hey all,

I'm looking to purchase 2 gigs of memory to game with and could use some advice.

Here are my computer components:

Asus A8N SLI Deluxe (10 syllables!)
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800
nVIDIA nForce4 SLI
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GS
WD 250GB HD
Lian-Li V1100Bplus
Sythe Ninja
Gateway 21"widescreen (it's great, and it's a Gateway?! Go figure)
Not the best, not the worst.

Just need a good set of memory and speakers really. No overclocking. Doesn't have to be the greatest, just good. Heat spreaders would be nice I guess.

This overkill?

Any suggestions?

If you want nice tight timings, those are pretty good for a 2GB kit.

You can go with something a bit cheaper with looser timings (CAS 2.5-3-3-8) you will loose a few percentage points on the benchmarks and maybe 1-3 FPS in games.

Too bad you aren't going to go for a mild OC, my 3800+ X-2 will hit around 2.4GHZ with stock voltage and cooler, that Ram would be perfect for it!

Oh, and heatspreaders are for "Bling" and a little extra protection from damage, they often can "trap" the heat...my KHX BH-5 with over 3.5v OC's a bit better without the factory ones (Using a 120MM fan to cool them)

Those OCZ "XTC" heatsinks are supposed allow heat to flow out of the honeycomb design...i've got the DDR500 version of the RAM he linked and they are cool to the touch.

Oh, and yeah that OCZ DDR400 is some really damn good memory. I would go with it because the tight timings will give it that much extra oomph.

Yeah I kinda didn't look close at the pics, thought they were the old style...I was thinking about that though

They are probably one of the best versions I have seen, but in reality they realy dont make much difference over naked RAM...even the best ones are at best a 1-3MHZ gain...you can do equal or better with a fan blowing on bare memory.

DDR 2 has even less to gain since they don't use enough voltage to get warm to the touch
