Default corsair upgrade

i was just wondering i currently have 1 gig of corsair XMS-PC3200C2 pro (2x 512 sticks) now would it be possible to upgrade to 3 gig by sticking 2 sticks of 1gig corsair XMS-PC3200C2 pro in my system.

would this be a problem or should i just take out my 512 sticks out and replace them with 1gig sticks.

even though 3gig of ram isn't necessarily needed i'm just bored with my setup right now and need an upgrade

Yes, adding a 2GB kit of matched corsair ram would allow your system to run at 3GB of ram. I was running and OCZ 2x1GB kit with 2x512MB Corsair XMS Pro PC3200. If I remember correctly, you can only run T2 timings with 4 sticks of ram installed. Hope this helps.

You'll definitely notice a difference in games when loading and also when running high resolutions (1600x1200 with AA on), when you upgrade your RAM.

Yes, you can put dual 1GB sticks to go with the dual 512MB sticks. It will also run dual channel, but it'll reduce the command timing rate to 2T, which hurts bandwidth and reduces max. performance by about 5-10%. I would recommend just using the 2GB kit and not sacrifice the performance just to get the extra 1GB of memory that you probably won't use anyways. Running 2-3-2-5 1T will be a LOT faster than ~2.5-3-3-8 (probably what it'll run) 2T.
