I have 4 sticks of this RAM and I plan on using all 4 at 2T unless I would get better
performance out of 2 sticks a 1T.
So what would be best ? 2 sticks @ 1T or 4 sticks @ 2T ?
Thanks

1t and 2 sticks is best for benchmarking, but if you play BF-2 and other new games, it will be a bit starved for memory capacity, you would be better off with 4sticks and 2t then

I'm not sure you'll be able to hit DDR600 @ 2T with 4 sticks. Let us know.

I'll let you guys know if I can get DDR600 @ 2T ... I'm just waiting on a new motherboard first.
Thanks for the input

2 sticks. You'll notice an increase in performance.

I'm sorry, I'm kind of a newb at OC'n, I'd like to know what exactly does 1T and 2T command do? And [NYC]GrimReaper, what type of processor do you plan on using?

1T and 2T is just how fast the RAM gets commands. 1T is also known as Command Per Clock, which means every time the RAM runs through a clock cycle, and other command is put in. 2T just means every other clock.

Which would mean that 2T would be slower?

Yes, because it's only doing half as much as it could.

How do you tell if your memory is 1T or 2T? Could you use 2 2T sticks and make them work together as 1T, sort of like 'firing' opposite each other?

No, it doesn't work like that. It should tell you in your BIOS under your RAM configuration/timing section what command timing you are running.

All the RAM has to run at the same command time, because they are all on the same memory controller.

You shouldn't have to worry about figuiring out what command time your RAM uses because it's stored on the SPD right?

Most of the time yes. If not, its a simple change in the BIOS. Just look for the setting under DRAM Configuration(or something similar) for CPC or Command per clock. It will have 3 settings: 1T, 2T, or AUTO. I usually set this manually to 1T (I use 2 sticks)to be on the safe side because, as previously stated, motherboards dont allways read the SPD chip correctly. You can do the same for 2T as well.

I am also interested to see if you can do DDR600 @ 2T w/ four sticks.

if he can't get the 4 sticks at 2T what will he have to set it too? Isn't 2T the slowest command rate there is?

Yes. What were saying is that he'll be lucky if it works at all.

From what I understand about the A64 memory controller is that it forces the ram to do 2T w/4 sticks. That is if it works. If it does work it probably wont be at DDR600. It will, from what Ive seen, force a divider on them.

are dividers necessarily a bad thing?

Not really. You only need them if the memory is at an unstable frequency.

Well, he might be able to compensate by overclocking his CPU to bring the ram to spec speeds(again hypothetically speaking...were talking an insane FSB). Even still, it isnt optimal to run with a divider so there is a slight performance loss. Not to mention, he is allready taking a performance hit by running at 2T.

Personally, I think he would get better performance from two sticks @ DDR600, 1T. He could then overclock going 1:1 all the way up to and beyond a 300FSB.
