Default Corsair Xms

Hello again. I'm for sure looking for two gigs of RAM that are extremely overclockable. I'm getting an AMD athlon 64 x2 3800+ (2.0 ghz) and I want to be able to raise this significantly. I know that the Corsair Twin XMS PC4000 2GB DDR Memory Kit is the best for what I am asking. This is marked as $258. However, I can get a similar product for significantly less. The only difference I can see between the two is that the more expensive memory is PC4000, while the cheaper of the two is PC3200. What the hell does it all mean, and would you reccomend me getting the more expensive one for extensive gaming and speed. Thank you. F Kit

the pc3200 memory is rated at a default memory clock speed of 400 mhz, which is what an intel or amd processor's front side bus, and therefore memory, runs at by default. so if you dont plan on overclockign, then pc3200 is fully sufficient. if you do plan on overclocking, the pc4000 is rated at 450 mhz i believe, so it will probably overclock further than the pc3200. you can get either to run higher than their rated clock speeds, but the pc4000 will probably clock higher. hope that helps

So would you say it's worth the 40 dollar difference if I was intending on overclocking?

PC4000 is DDR500.

Yes, if you are going for raw clock speeds, the PC4000 RAM will be worth it.

You'll have to use a RAM divider with the cheaper PC3200 in order to get the same FSB speeds you would achieve at 1:1 with the PC4000.

Not sure if I am too late, but the highest bandwith that I have seen using 2x1024 memory is 2x1Gb Crucial Ballistix PC4000

It was being used at 270fsb @ 3,3,3,10,1T shown here (#52)
