Default Help me choose the best RAM for OCing my P4

Ready to lock my P4 @ 3.4-3.6GHz this christmas when I get new ram (as all 1536MB of what I got is extremely bad now [*corrupted my video driver installation yesterday] and really slow). Probably have about $120-150 to play with, so i'm looking to find a gig of DDR400 of better, CAS-2 if possible..

I'll look into that, though I'm really trying to avoid buying any more 512MB modules (I'd like to eventually have 3-4GB) I had something a bit more like this in mind (it seems about equal to the OCZ you showed me other than the fact I can potentially put twice as much of it in and its $20 cheaper and comes at already-OC'd 216FSB speeds)..

K.. Grandma already sent me a $75 gift certificate, so I think I'm gonna be golden.

Corsair XMS 2x1GB 2-3-3-6:

It's a tad pricey, but it'll kick some butt later on.

K.. Looks a bit closer to what i'm looking for. But I doubt my budget will cover that, I still need to (finally) get the HL2 GOLD pack from steam, too.. how about DDR500 @ 3-4-4-8 XMSorDDR400 @ 2-3-3-6 XMS?

For $3 more? I'd get the DDR500 RAM. It should still run tight timings at DDR400, and it has that overclocking headroom, too.

Alright.. Cool, but will the 1GB (essential downgrade of quantity by a third to OC) run extremely memory-limited F.E.A.R and BF2 better than my 1.5GB? Also have to wonder how much of it's power you could exploit on the sis 964 MuTIOL (<--1GB/s-->) northbridge.. (supposedly a bit defficient in memory control )

K.. I'm buying this and the Premier Source Pack from steam as soon as someone can reply here.. One last thing, you think it'd be a better idea (seeing as the Corsair DDR500 I read in reviews didn't benefit i865-level boards as satisfactorily as other options) to opt for the dual-channel Crucial Ballistix?

PS. Got the Source Pack DL'ing now (with any luck, half of it may be playable by christmas day on my 256k..)

I'm getting the Corsair TwinX1024-3200C2Pro seeing as I'll probably never see the benefit of the DDR500 (my physical CPU cap being about 225FSB on this mobo) and want to keep the small 1-5% percentage speed improvement of dual-channel, I think it'll serve me better until I decide to upgrade to a DDRII+ platform..
