and if this is right must i also back off the timings? at 800Mhz my settings are 4-4-4-12 | | | | | |
All depends what motherboard you're using, but yeah I think my A8N-32 worked like that, I used to set the
RAM ratio, but it didn't show as a ratio on-screen, i.e. 1:2, it just showed the speed of the
RAM and the
FSB.
So yeah, you're right, if you set the
RAM to a lower default speed in sync with the
FSB, then you can raise the
FSB without pushing the
RAM over it's 800mhz mark.
You will only need to back off the timings if you're overclocking past your
RAM's default speed. If you're lowering it, you can tighten the timings a little. Again that depends on your hardware, this time your
RAM manufacturer and model and what sort of timings it's capable of. Try and find a review of your modules and see how far others have successfully pushed them.
Be careful though, and always check for
RAM stability with memtest86.
