Default DDR2 safe voltage?

I've just bumped my Crucial 10th Anniversary DDR667 to 2.42v (stock is 2.2v) cos I've been getting lockups and BSODs at 2.35v when I set them to 950mhz, 4-4-4-12. Just wondering what can be considered a safe voltage for DDR2?

EDIT: Ok, well Orthos just failed after 8 minutes at those settings. Any ideas what I need to do? This memory is supposed to be incredibly overclockable.

You are trying DDR950 at the 4-4-4-12 timings is that correct?
There are only a couple I know of that will go that high with those timings, have you tried 5-5-5-15? Or 5-5-5-13?

2.2 is probably the only "Safe" voltage...there have been several warnings around the net (NVIDIA I think specifically, concerning their motherboard lines) about extremely reduced lifespan on DDR-2 with 2.4v and above.

If long life is your goal..2.2 or less is the best bet.

I would go for the tightest timings at those volts, and don't worry about max speed of the ram...usually 4-4-4-12 at DDR800 is as fast, or faster than 5-5-5-15 at DDDR1000+

I would check your TRC setting..they tend to be too tight and cause instability when left in auto while OC'ing...not all motherboards have the option to tweek it, my 975x ASUS P5WDH Deluxe didn't and it realy put a cramp in my max OC ram speed.

Well I'm just putting it through Orthos @ 800mhz, 4-4-4-12 with stock volts. If that's all I can get out of this memory, then I'll be pretty disappointed - I specifically bought it because I heard it overclocked to stupid levels, so I may as well have bought GEiL DDR800 for £40 less

TRC is set to 24 btw (according to CPU-Z), good? bad?

Hahah i would be too, Because of Gskills

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

150$ and it WILL do DDR 1000 + At stock timings of 4-4-3-5 with 2.2V

matt

Well, I'm currently running it at stock voltage, 800mhz, 4-4-4-3. Seems rock solid and nicely stable, so I'm wondering how much further I can lower the latencies.

Try using MemSet v3.2 and change the timings one at a time in Windows....sometimes you can run things a bit tighter than the Bios will allow you too boot with, though you can try if they do work...sometimes it goes, sometimes it won't.

Be prepared to have it "Crash" if you go to tight though, make sure everything is backed up safely on a another drive in case you get some bad luck and need to format...something that has happened to me a few times when playing with memory timings.

It's not likely this ram will do it...but just to give you some ideas, I have seen some people reach DDR-1 like timings of 3-2-2-5 on 680i at DDR-800!

Well it's now at 4-4-3-3, 800mhz. It won't boot with any lower values, and BSODs when I set them lower with MemSet, so I guess this is it. Still seems strange I can't run it megahertzly faster than this.

Reflux, I'm also using Crucial Ballistix 667MHz (Non-Anniversary, but its so cheap now 81 quid for 2GB). I reckon your problem will be with your motherboards memory controller, not your memory. My D975XBX2 can run my Ballistix at 800MHz CAS3 easily, and our memory is virtually the same (Anniversary is supposed to be a little stronger). My advice is try 3-4-4-12 @ 2.2v 800MHz. I always use TRAS 12, it seems most stable and allows for max clocking.

As for voltages 2.35v is the most I'd use 24/7.

Tried 3-4-4-12, it won't boot. I'd definitely agree with you about the memory controller being crap - I've know of someone else who experiences random lockups when they overclock their memory more than 150mhz on this board. There's a new BIOS out, 0602, but it seems like a lottery with this board, whether new revisions actually solve the problems or create new ones.
