| Apex Techie I | So for my next system I want to confirm a few things that I am uncertain of. First thing is that for overclocking a e6600 that has a x9 multiplier and want to achieve 3+ Ghz, would going with DDR2 800 be a good bet or would somthing higher be better. Correct me if I am wrong (still learning about OCing things) but do determine the speed of the processor its Multiplier*Bus Speed=CPU Speed. So if I get DDR2 800 I should be able to get a Bus Speed of 400Mhz (1/2 of the DDR speed) which then would give me a 3.6 Ghz (9*400=3.6 GHz) CPU speed right? The MOBO will have a nvidia 680i chipset. I posted once before about ram but this is to clearify some things and ask more specific questions. Also is the 680i what you would recommend or a different chipsit.... Any specific boards you perfer? Thanks Archon | |

| Not 100% sure about the 680i chipset, but I run a 650i board which lets you simply unlink the CPU and RAM speeds, so you just set your FSB for the CPU (in my case 1450 / 4 = 362 * 9 = 3.26Ghz CPU) and set your RAM to run whatever DDR speed you like (in my case ive set my DDR2 800 to 850). Hope that helps. | ||
