Default Rammage Questions

At the moment I'm running my Crucial 10th Anniversary DDR667 at 1:1 with the FSB (ie 443mhz, 886 effective), with latencies of 4-4-4-11. This is at 2.35v (stock is 2.2v). Basically, I want to know how I can increase memory performance.

Will running 1:1 as I am give me the best performance possible? Or would I benefit from increasing the memory speed and going beyond that? Also, I know that the memory will overclock further, but doing so will mean I will need to drop the latencies, and higher latencies negate speed increases, no?

Lastly, can anyone explain why my system will crash and the screen will go red sometimes when I've set the latencies too low?

Cheers guys

EDIT: Just found this thread over at Xtreme Systems. This memory is yielding some pretty awesome overclocks. But how important is cooling for memory? My case has pretty poor airflow and there's nothing I can do about it at the moment.

higher clocks are better than low latencies on intel systems as far as i know

your proc and memory still both have a ton of headroom

id say leave the memory voltage alone.. up the timings to 5-5-5-15 and i bet you will hit close to 500 fsb

maye sure you have your northy at 1.5v before you do it tho

i think the only thing that would hold you back from 500 is the board... but dont worry i have the same one lol

we need to start spamming asus to give us a better bios

Does your board have 1T and 2T options? Set it to 2T, clock will increase loads. I pretty much always use 4-4-4-12 (TRAS = best stability IMO) on DDR2 except when benching and my memory will do ~1060MHz like that w/ 2.3v.

Mem cooling is important, I think for DDR2 around 2.4v is when you need a fan blowing cool air on them to keep from frying.

I remembered why she wasn't stable before at anything above 3.1ghz - needed to increase the northbridge voltage to 1.56v. Have done that, and so far she's been fine in Orthos @ 3.3ghz/525mhz memory @ 5-5-5-12. Will try lower latencies after another 2 hours if all's well. Thanks for the tips guys

Nice one, 4-4-4-12 @ 2.3v's should be doable at that speed! Go For It.

It was stable for 4 hours 38 minutes @ 525mhz/ 5-5-5-12 until I stopped it...hmmm...just failed Orthos after 2 minutes 21 seconds @ 525mhz / 4-4-4-12. Reckon it might be a heat issue, as clicking 'resume' makes it fail after 37 seconds? My case airflow is shoddy.

wow... you got the fsb up to 525... unnnbelievable

525x7 right? id be happy with that lol- what speed is your memory at? 1050?

Nah, 525mhz is the memory. It isn't running 1:1, the FSB is 471mhz.

Run 942MHz 4-4-4-12, that'll rock anyway.

yeah id suggest running it unlinked... nvidia put that so if you have crappy ram you can still oc your proc

if your memory is capable enough... and it is i think it would be better to run it with the multi, i tried booting with it unlinked a few times and my mem was crippled

i just got my ballistix to ddr2 1000 at 4-4-4-12 it took 2.275 volts though- you have the same chips- d9gmh so you should be able to hit that at least

dont do 500 fsb tho- i have it at 1500 with the ram at 3:2... im going to slowly creep up the clock from here but i think this board is probs gonna top below 450

oh- i was just benchmarking the mem with sandra and i saw that someone on a nf570 chipset hit 1gb/s +++ with some 1066 at cl-5

how is it so fast? my 1000 at cl-4 only did 7.6k mb/s

are they running it at 1T?? would that make a difference?

or is it just a mistake?

You won't be able to run 1T at that speed.
