Default Removing Rivets

This is actually really easy to do, but I see far too many people do a lot of damage to their cases trying to remove rivets

First, use a dremel to cut the rivet so that it looks like a flat head screw. This is an old case. You can be a little more careful here.

Then use a flat head screwdriver to turn it slightly in both directions

It will easily break into two pieces

One or both of the pieces may still be attached slightly, so pull them off with pliers

I then use a Scratch Awl to push the little anchor piece through

And that's it! The whole process usually takes me about 30 seconds

Nice tip there TGS, but I just use an 1/8th inch drill bit to drill them out. If it spins just go in at a slight angle to stop it from spinning, after doing this to an entire wing you learn real quick. I have though used a dremel to remove rivets but to just gring all of the rivet off with out the use of the screw driver or pliers.

What do you do for flush rivets?

Yeah, I have to bust through a lot of rivets at work to retrofit certain equipment we have... I usually just drill 'em out too. Takes a couple seconds.

Yea I just use a drill bit. Its pretty funny in my garage I got various drill bits just filled with rivet heads.

I have, but sometimes I wind up slamming the drill face into the top when the rivet gives way.

Hmm - if you use that much pressure, you need sharper bits. I love my DeWalt speed fluted bits. Last a long time.

Agreed! It is like the same principal of using self-tapping screws.... use only enough pressure to get it to bite.

I've jammed a needle-nose plier prong into rivets and turned it that way.

It would be neat to see a case made without rivets, just bolts. You could probably do things like 'inverted ATX' orientations dead easy that way.

Dang - and I'm putting rivets in for the sake of rivets with my custom case.
