Default Color Scheme

Now I know what you are thinking, this should belong in the member article section.. but Ive tried numours times to post there and I get subjected to disaproval. Call me a rebel; but I know this information will be helpful to all:

Hi, some of you fellow memebers may know me by either David Vaini or my gaming handle: "Gatorlangman". I for a long time have been doing all sorts of graphic art as well as modding.

Today I thought it would be cool to drop a couple of cool color pointers for those who are trying to delegate the appropriate color scheme for their project. You might be asking yourself, "What good does this do me?", well I'm here to tell you why.

Color schemes are very important in planning any sort of project. In case you don't know what a color scheme is; Its quite simple, a color scheme is a collection of colors that go well togeather to design a visual pleasing stimuli.

Over the years, I have seen many different projects that would be eons better if they took the time to choose the right color scheme. So if you are looking for something that will make your next project top notch; have no fear, the color schemes are here.

Triadic Color Scheme: The first color scheme im going to teach you about is the simple triadic color scheme. This color scheme is ideal for anyone looking to use 3 colors for their computer case, or project. The Triadic Color Scheme is a collection of 3 colors that form a triangle in the color wheel.

Analogous Color Scheme: Next we have the Analogous Color scheme. Again we use the color wheel to describe this color scheme. Its simply a collection of 2 - 4 colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. A perfect example can be shown below:

Complementary Color Scheme: Sometimes oppisite colors seem to work well togeather. Such as Purple and Yellow or Black and White. We call these complementary colors. They are simply colors that are oppisites of each other on the color wheel. (As shown below)

Split Complementary Color Scheme: You know now that a complementary color scheme is commposed of 2 colors; but what bout those who choose to have 3 colors? Well split complementary colors are what you need to exceed. First off you choose 1 color on the color wheel, you then go to its complementary and you choose the 2 colors that are next to it. Those 3 collective colors will then form a split complementary color scheme as shown below.

Because the mod/admin choose not to... The fact that you put it in the worklog section after it was denied may get it deleted... but at the least it needs to be moved because this section is for Worklogs.....

Do you mean the "Member Modding Tips and Guides"? If your post was rejected wherever you wanted it, why not post this in "Modding" --> "Painting" or "Miscellaneous Stuff" --> "Anything Goes"?

This has nothing to do with a work log or project.

Personally, I don't quite agree with the results obtained by your color wheel's "complimentary colors" suggestions. Again personally, I think purple and yellow/orange make a horrible combination! They certainly stand out mind you, but clashing colors don't necessarily mean they complement each other. Purple and red, purple and green, and even purple and blue make much better combos than the so-called "complementary colors" in the color wheels.

Teal and dark orange are also considered complementary colors, but they look like puke when used together in a combination. Teal and yellow, or teal and purple, make better and easier-on-the-eye color combos.

This is not really to dispute your theory, but rather to point out that color choices and combinations are a very subjective thing. What looks good to me might look bad to someone who is blue/yellow colorblind, red/green colorblind, or just not very artistic.

It's an interesting write-up all the same.

These color scemes are a matter of theory and are always to one personal taste. These "Color Wheels" are not the answer, maybe innovation to ones master piece but that is all, nothing more .....nothing less.

I have always told people to follow your heart and paint which ever color you want....If it looks MAD WACKED well so be it, but you painted it and should be proud. That is how one learns is with there own creativity / mistakes, yes sometimes a push is needed with some help along the way, but its how we learn to create.

Dave treat people the way you want to be treated or you will have some issues, this includes STAFF!

Just in case you might want to link or elarabrate more on the subject. And i do not mean that harshly, sometimes other folks can get ideas when more people write more about them. good job by the way.

flounder, thanks for the links to your older threads related to color schemes. They would have been lost to new modders like me if you didn't link it here.

Analogous
Black and White arnt colors there for they arnt on the color wheel. A good rule of thumb is that Black goes well with any light color to create contrast.. while white goes well with any dark colors to create contrast. An example is shown below:

I used white text to create Thrill Kill's Sig to contrast to the Dark Grunge Design in the back.. Behind the text was an arrangment of red objects.. I used red's complementary color (Green) to help create contrast. This design was mainly a monochromatic color scheme with a little touch of complementary.
Grey Is half white and half black.. therefore It is used to make something apear dim or less vibrant. I have found that curtain shades of grey look nice when coupled with Dull shades of green. However Grey and Green are not my favorite pair (Subject to opinion)

Next we have Brown. Brown is offten a bi-product of orange and goes well with Orange's analogous colors

These color tips can be applyed to any Case painting

But but...what about chrome? Does it go well with translucent things since they have the opposite effect? Wait...is chrome even a color?
