Smile 9800Pro/VGA Silencer Mod

A while back I replaced the stock heatsink/fan from my 9800Pro by an Artic Cooler VGA Silencer.
In the mean time I replaced it by another Artic Cooling VGA Silencer, this time the newer ATI Copper/Alu version...

It performed better than the first one but, sadly, produced more noise... The original VGA Silencer had
a switch at the back which could be set to either low or high, at low it was dead silent.... Unfortunately,
the new model designed for ATI cards lacked the switch... Bummer... the fan of the new VGA Silencer
was clearly audible over all other fans in the PC... which annoyed the crap out of me while studying
or just surfing over the 'Net....

Hence I decided to buy a 'pot-meter which allowed me to set the voltage between 5v and 12v.

12v would be best for long gaming sessions & anything below that for office/internet....

Today, when it was snowing I put it all together. As you can see in the picture, this case doesn't have
a side window but, instead, is fully dampened.... you can also see why I'm so interested in a modular
PSU... my current Tagan has LONG cables....

Anyway... after some soldering & insulating it's all done! Note the blue thingie on top of the graphics
card.. that's a Noise Magic Attenuator great for eliminating rattling & humming noises from fans!

After putting everything back together I restarted the computer & gradually decreased the voltage by turning the knob... half-way I could not hear the fan anymore! W00t!!! Operation Succeeded!

Just to be sure I ran ATI Tool for an hour or so, to see if any artifacts showed up... nada!

The only thing I'll do know is replace the rather large knob for a smaller one....

I can reale recommend this 'mod for folks who love to work in a quiet environment but want full
cooling power when gaming.

I hope you liked this little mod..
