Default Emergency Lighting

Ive gotten this idea of using CCL's as emergency lighting....How? Ya know those deals T2 always posts on the 2.99 CCLs? Well get like 10 of those, hook them all up in parallel and set them around your room...

Either:
A) Get a spare Powersupply and (probably) save on energy (because switching powersupplies are very efficient.
B) Get a deep Cell Battery (I think they supply 60Amps...) and use that.

If you use the battery its like a backup powersupply, so when you lose lighting in your house (and dont have candles or flashlights), you will still have lights!

Hmm.... thats a bit random! I was thinking about wiring up my cathodes to their own power supply, just so I could have them on whilst my pc is powered down. My pc's in a dark spot under a table, so I need to use a torch whenever I tinker. I'd be nice to have the cathodes do the illumination for me.

It'd only be "emergency lighting" if you somehow wired it up to your houses fuse box (don't actually try this) so you could get it to activate automatically should you have a power-cut.

My advise is not to use red ones. Especially if you room is in the front.

i guess no one has rechargeable batteries and a flashlight so here is my back up/portable power solution that many people have in some similar form. gel cell (one 7 Ah, one 4.5 Ah and a 3 Ah NiMh pack) a charger (it charges any modern battery like NiMh, NiCd, lead acid, Li-Ion, LiPo) solar panel for if you really are without power, and an inverter or 12 volt device of your choice.
1st photo. two batteries, computerized charger which runs off 12 VDC or 100-250 VAC, and solar panel. you can charge a gel cell with a small panel like this without a charge controller since its only a 1.5 watt panel.

2nd photo. gel cell powering CCFL lamps. i had this power 5 tubes for a few hours one day for hallway decorations.

3rd photo. gel cell powering 4 foot T8 daylight FL tube with electronic ballast and inverter. fun is walking around with this thing which brings us to photo 4. a human holding the light for size comparison. these last two are actually from a photo project. im not sure how long i can power this light since ive only use it on battery for fun.
