| You know what would look nice and add some detail would be to use some spikes similar to the ones that were on the lapels of Ghost Riders leather jacket (the long tree spikes) and put them in place of the spoke holes that are still open.... ![]() | ||

| I liked the acrylic bending part. For the flame polishing, you can buy a really small, cheap hand-held butane torch, they're used to make various desserts (i.e. caramelizing a layer of sugar or making that crusty layer on custard desserts). That's what I used to polish the red UV-reactive acrylic floor I made for the Modding On The Cheap project. I did the cutting, used a grinding tool to get rid of the worst of the burrs, sanded the edges with 400-grit, and then the flame polishing. I might have to try your drum sanding attachment next time, that seemed to work well! I never had much luck trying to bend the acrylic though, I might have to try again. | ||

I really find it's easier to use a heatgun - especially with thicker acrylic where you really have to hit it hard. If I'm bending 1/4" and thicker I find I have to use a heatgun actually to avoided bubbling.

Depends on the width of the piece too. Wider it is, harder to keep the entire seam of the bend heated to the right point. I'll usually take a heatgun up to max and start moving acrost lets say 12" piece every 3 seconds and just keep doing it til it starts to bend from it's own weight. Then I'll slow it down just a little bit til it drops fully under it's own weight. Also always make sure you work from the top. If it's a smaller piece I'll still pretend it's a wider piece just to make sure I don't heat it to far and bubble it.

One technique I found works well is laying the sheet over a block of wood at the point you want your crease, then covering the top with a couple more blocks, just leaving the strip you want heated exposed. It keeps the acrylic from getting overheated, and you can use the block to push the acrylic down until it's at the angle you desire.
