Default Booting straight to terminal

Tried installing the drivers for my X1900 (on Fedora 6), while X was running (in hind sight that was probably dumb, but I'm an utter n00b when it comes to Linux), and now all I get is a black screen while trying to boot. If I press esc I get some message saying that X couldn't load properly and asks if I want to see the error output, then it asks if I want to configure X. But that leads to nothing, get a black screen with a blinking underscore, and no matter what I do, nothing happens.

So my question is, is there some way to boot straight to the terminal, similar to pressing F8 to get into safe mode in Windows?

A little mistake in the first post, if I say yes to configure X, I'm first asked for the root password, and then the blinking underscore. I'm dualbooting windows and Fedora, so I have a bootloader, am just wondering if there is something I could do in that so I would boot into the terminal?

And TK, sry but I wasn't sure what you meant.

Well if you are being asked to configure your X, that means that there is an issue with X itself. A way to pass this is to press ctrl+alt+ESC
This will give up on X and go straight to terminal
From there you should be able to edit your xorg.conf file, which is the problem here.

Also, your problem here is ATI and its piss poor driver support.

Had tried the ctrl+alt+esc at different times but it didn't seem to do anything. And it really sucks that ATI don't like Linux, maybe they just don't like penguins?

They are doing the same thing that adobe is doing. They are just being stubborn.
But recently they announced that they are going to have the catalyst control center for Linux so the future isn't looking so bleak for ATI. Now if adobe would make photoshop for linux....*grumble grumble*

Well we've got GIMP

But a small update, I somehow managed to uninstall the drivers but I've still no idea how to install them.

Since I am short on time, this should give you a little insight on ATI Drivers.
I know it is a full edgy install guide, but the first parts of it are all about video drivers and xorg.
Ubuntu Edgy Installation Guide - cchtml.com

Give it a flip through, if you need any help, hit me up on IM in a few hours when I get back,

there are a few ways to get into a terminal. one way, is to press, control, alt, escape, or control, alt, backspace. both of these kill the x server. some distrobutions try to restart the x server, when it exits this way. if this is happening, you could open a shell, in the x server, and type, init 3, as root. this enters run level three, which is a terminal. if you can't even see anything, so, you can't open a shell, you could get a live cd, and edit /etc/inittab, and set the run level to three, and when you're ready to use the x server, again, change the run level, back to five, or, whatever it was, before you changed it to three.
IM going to check, but, there might be a way to pass a run level, through the bootloader. are you using grub? or lilo? or something else?
well, I'll just check for grub, and lilo.

when it asks if you want to configure x or see the output you say no. you are then in terminal with no x. here you can log in as root and startx, or from terminal cd to /etc/xorg.conf and delete that file. try again and it should write a fresh xorg.
which drivers are you using? if it's the fgrlx have a look here:
AMD/ATI Linux - Phoronix Forums

to install the drivers now:
