Default libtool error

downloaded guile-1.8.1 and installed.I run ./configure it shows
checking for lt_dlinit in -lltdl.....no
configure:error:libltdl not found.see README

Then i downloaded libtool and installed it.For libtool --version it says
ltmain.sh (GNU libtool) 1.5.22(1.1220.2.365 2005/12/18 22:14:06) -> so libtool installed.still same error comes in guile configure..what to do? any help will be appreciated.

Make sure you aren't root when you try to run anything that doesn't require it. Also find the installation location of the missing libraries and make sure that directory is in your $PATH.

you mean to say that we should not in su mode.whoami is showing root.how to change this to something else? Then how to find installation location for the missing librarries.my path says
/sbin /bin /usr/sbin /usr/bin /usr/games /usr/local/sbin /usr/local/bin /usr/X11R6/bin /root/bin
by default where the ./configure will check for libltdl..i think its in /usr/bin.isnt it ?
