Steam dies at 26%

Well, this sucks, I get my ubuntu install all setup and nice, ready to go. I get wine working on 64 bit ubuntu.

I get steam, install it, but the update stops at 26%. Doesnt that just suck. It seems to be an issue with the new wine, but if anyone knows any fixes, I'm all ears.

well in windows deleting client.blob helps fix alot of issues with updating etc.

You know steam,even if you get it working it'll just slow down to .08Kbs and then break again.
Ive never had as much trouble as Steam.

Infact after working flawless for 6 months mine broke again last night ,for no apparent reason.

Rbieze, I feel your pain.

Steam is crap I think, I do like how you can dl your games, and never need the cd, but what goods that when it doesnt even work half the time.

My steam is working. It has a crash once in a while but I'm used to it since I am using windows. Most of the time when it gives me trouble I just reinstall steam. I tried finding the problem before but that took longer than reinstalling. I don't think this will help you though if its a fresh install of steam because technically you canit get into steam till you update.

Anything in the steam forums by any chance?

Well, I added a font that it needed, that seemed to fis the issue, for about ten minutes, then linux froze

well the best thing i can offer you is to use cadegra its 5 bucks a month and is compatable with almost any game on most every distro http://www.transgaming.com/index.php...isplay&ceid=29 once i get my sata drive to work with linux thats what im going to be useing just gotta get my stupid south bridge chipset to work right lol.

It's not cedega or wine, its steam itself, just wait for a new wine release, and I would suggest dual booting linux/XP, thats what I do.

Methinks your problem is that your using 64bit Ubuntu. Its still pretty buggy. Switch back to 32bit and I'm willing to bet your Steam woes will be no more. Im actually surprised you got wine working in 64bit...most people I know couldnt get it working...or at least not at 100%. I have absolutely no problems with Steam under 32bit.

Its not the OS he's using, its steams problem, it happens with the wine release, you'll have to wait for the next release if you plan on using it.

What wine release is in question here? I'm using v0.9.20. Thats the latest release. I also had no problems with the previous 3 & Steam...except under 64bit Breezy and Dapper. I'm not so sure Steam is the culprit.

They have been repairing the server a fair bit over the last few weeks, I have had the same problems. I actually unistalled everything off steam and then my mate tells me it was a server crash DAMNIT! just be paitent.
