I have been running Linux Mint on my laptop for around a month and have run into this problem when trying to connect remotely to 2 different computers.

The main one I am concerned about is when trying to do a remote desktop connection to my desktop pc which is running Win XP. When I try to do this I am able to get to the login screen, but when I enter my password and try to log in it reports that I entered the wrong password. I was able to use remote desktop when I was running windows on my laptop so I know the desktop is set up to allow it.

The second problem that I am having which seems to be connected, or at least similar, is that when trying to ssh into a web machine running BSD, for my networking class, I also get an invalid password error. I am not positive that I am entering the right parameters to connect to the right machine here so this may not be completely a password problem and may be something else, but it seems to be a similar issue.

I know that in both cases I am entering the correct password, and in the case of connecting to my desktop I know that I am able to connect to it. Anyone have any ideas for me?

do you mind posting the command you run to connect with ssh to the bsd host? of course just replace your user name with like , or something

Yeah I feel kind of stupid here. As it turns out the remote desktop problem was that my laptop was reporting an invalid username. For some reason my desktop is set with a username that I dont normally use so when I put in my normal username and password it didnt work.

The problem I am having with SSH is in large part because of an issue with my department account and password. I got my account reset about 2 weeks ago then went and set my password and was able to log into the computers using it. Then about a week ago when I went to log in again it did not except my password even though I know with 100% certainty that both my password and username were correct (this was on a computer in one of the department computer labs). So my account is locked and I need to go get that taken care of before I am able to try to SSH into one net machines.
