| Installing NwN and Photoshop CS I recently switched to Linux's Ubuntu distro from Windows. Seems I ran into a few problems along the way with a few of my previous programs.
Problem 1 - Adobe Photoshop CS
I decided I wanted to put in Photoshop after struggling with GIMP (just prefer things I'm used to), and used WINE to install it. Everything was working fine until the actual program came up...Seems to freeze up and need a force quit after the main work screen comes through. I'm thinking that the other windows that pop up after Photoshop is done loading is what's stopping it, but I'm not sure what to do about that. Any suggestions would be helpful here...Even if it's just that Photoshop and Linux don't get along well enough.
Problem 2 - Neverwinter Nights
I never owned a single CD for these. A friend of mine let me borrow his for a while and I used his CD keys, and sometime after I handed them back for whatever reasons I can't quite think of at the moment. Either way, I've been moving the files from computer to computer through a flash drive. I moved NwN to my home folder once I got Linux and ran the ./fixinstall after getting the correct files needed to run the program (the ones NwN lets you download off their website). For some odd reason, Linux went ick on me (think it said something about sshd configuration being failure? It runs a bit too fast for notetaking when you're gawking at the screen). I restarted, ran the fix install again without Beryl running that time, everything worked smoothly and I was able to log in. Portraits wouldn't load, certain textures were chromed out, and in general, I moved horribly slow. Occasionally, the error from before when I first crashed would pop up and crash again. I can always do that again to try to get the entire message next time. I'm thinking it has to do with the ATI graphics thing not agreeing with whatever, but I'm going to redownload the haks and overrides for the folder again and see if that's any better. If not, I'm at a loss over what to do.
I know I could always go back and switch to dual booting Windows with Linux, but for now, I'm just trying to find a Linux only solution. I hope I provided enough information to get help on with. |
