| **Warning: Super N00B!!** Hi, my name is hartigan and I know nothing about Ubuntu/Linux. Now that that's out of the way . . . I know I could spend a bunch of time "googling" around until I'm able to piece together all of the information gleaned into some semblance of an answer to this question but, I trust you guys a bit more than I do my own research abilities in this matter. I'm trying to install drivers for my 7900GTX and so far I've downloaded the 9775 linux drivers from nvidia and I know how to get to terminal. I tried :sudo sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-1.0-9775-pkg2.run that resulted in an error message telling me the following: Code: ERROR: Unable to find the system utility `ld`; please make sure you have the
package 'binutils' installed. If you do have binutils installed,
then please check that `ld` is in your PATH. Please help. -hartigan

| I was tempted to RTFM but... The easiest way to install Nvidia drivers in Ubuntu. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...erHowto/Nvidia If you want to install it manually. https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual Ubuntu is probably the most documented Linux distro for noobs. I'd recommend searching the Ubuntu wiki anytime you have questions, a lot of good info in there. Also the Gentoo unofficial wiki is a good resource, not just for Gentoo but all distributions of Linux, Main Page - Gentoo Linux Wiki | ||

| Ubuntu: Better do it the noob way or you will run into problems. I found ubuntu works out of the box, but customization in it is rather troublesome. I wont suggest a distro to avoide being a fanboy, but you all know my favorite one. If you are gonna use the very beginner OS, why not use the very beginner tools such as automatix, easyubuntu, etc. | ||

Thank you for being gentle. I'll give the suggestions a try today after work. I'll keep that wiki in mind. I must admit, it was rather late for me last night and I was already rather frustrated from dealing with grub to get the dual boot of vista and ubuntu to work, so I was looking for the "quick fix" instead of wading through documentation. Everyone's help is greatly appreciated. -hartigan
