BusinessWire AMD plans to optimize the Linux Support for ATI's Catalyst software from the beginning of September gradually. Today's announcement is a substantial step towards the reorientation of the graphics support for consumer Linux users. Still in September AMD intends to release version 7.9 of the Catalyst Package. Popular computer games such as Doom 3 and Quake 4 will receive an
increase of performance of more than 90 percent for example with Catalyst 7.9 compared to previous drivers.
GPU's of the ATI Radeon HP 2000-Series becomes fully Linux compatible. In the fourth quarter of 2007 AMD's Catalyst software package for Linux will also support AIGLX technology (Accelerated Indirect GLX).
