Welcome to PimpRig. Deciding on a CPU is a personal choice, but if you have been lurking in the shadows I'm sure your aware of that. (sublimanal message pick AMD) As for Avatars and sigs there is a minimum post count before you may add custom work to your posts. Thrasher2 will be by shortly with some handy links. Check them out, you wont be sorry you did.

| there was also something i wanted to try. i want summin of a music/dance club theme. i was thinking of replacing a whole side panel (the one the motherboard is right next to) with a tv/computer screen of some kind and i want it to show some graphics or vids that move to the beat of the music, maybe summin like those music level bars: _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ if ya know what i mean | ||

| im likin the case/graphics cards and most of the stuff. im a lil worried bout the processor though. ive never tried AMD, but im an INTEL junkie, i dunno if i can live w/o it. ive heard lotsa arguments for AMD, wts urs? and also, i don like the western digital, unfortunately. i was gonna go with the one raptor, one mega-gig idea, but maybe some good seagates? waddya think? EDIT: actually, scratch that, i was lookin at some rigs and some of the best cases used server towers, is that a good idea and where can i even get some? | Well, I personally only use Western Digital after trying many other brands with varying success. Never had any probs with WD. Seagate would be a good second choice though. And my argument for AMD is simply that they pwn Intel ass at almost everything. I would only, ever, ever encourage somebody to use Intel if they were either looking to use their computer as a backup source of heat in the winter months ( ) or were doing vast amounts of video/audio encoding. For multitasking, dual core takes the biscuit. AMDs dual cores were in the pipe long before Intels, and although Intel rushed theirs out first, it was half baked. AMDs effort is well thought out, efficient and again, simply pwns. AMDs are generally accepted as the gamers choice, the Athlon64s being the best (imho) desktop processors around today. Plus we have our resident AMD overclocking expert $SOLID$ Necro always haning around to help you push your chip to the max. Im 100% sure that everyone here worth listening to will wholeheartedly recommend AMDs Athlon X2 and Athon 64 chips too ![]() EDIT - See, take note. Me and TYCOON are worth listening too, cos we are AMD fanboys ![]() | ||

| Ok I am soo freaken late on this. Now for what Im good at . LCD screens, err LCD modules really. YOu can make them show the bars from winamp. Depending on where you get em from, it can cost anywhere from 7 bucks to 200 bucks (yea that much), but at that price, through research I have found cheaper ones that look the same. They take up 1 parallel port, or 1 serial port. Me and T2 are working on getting one to work on USB. EDIT: heres where I ordered mine from (well..T2 did..)http://www.411techsystems.com/html/lcd_outlet.html Check out the Blue and White one ![]() | ||

| wait, help me out here Nerdz. these modules look a little small. are the dimensions in inches? also, i was thinking on a much larger scale, with color too. if what im talking about is not even possible plez let me know . ive never thought of something like thisEDIT: oh and thanks to $SOLIDS$ too, an priceless help | ||

| I know they are small, but they do look nice. You can (if you want) mount it on the front on a spare drive bay. They come in 2x16 (where 16 is across and 2 is how many lines),2x40,4x16,4x20,2x20. The graphical ones are like the ones in PDA and such, 128x284, 640x680 are the only ones I know of. You can however, go and find a PS1 portable screen, take that out and use that. Theres a how too some where around the web (Ive seen it too, looks good) So yea you can do it. And Oh the LCD modules, do come in some colors, like backround and character color, the most common is black with silver backround with a green backlight.. Yes Dimensions are in inches. | ||

| hmmm. k, this is good. the PS1 idea would be pretty cool actually. Just in case, i was wonderin if i could do this: could i try a multiple monitor set-up, put one of em on the side panel, and split it up so that on the free standing one i could do word processor or summin, and then on the other i could play winamp with the bars? | ||

With a little planning why not. If they can put a PC in a picture frame and hang it on a wall I dont see why you could not mount a extra monitor on your PC. Power and heat would need to be thought out. I like the idea.
