What's up everyone?

I have been playing more FPS in the last year and am realizing that my PC now needs to be beefed up to keep up. So with my greeting, here is my first question: I am looking to purchase a 256MB DDR AGP video card but I want to spend < $100. I was considering a Procolor Radeon 9600 but I'm starting to think that I may get more for my money if I go with NVidia (say a GeForce 6600). Anyone have any advice for a decent card within my budget? Recommendations on specific manufacturers are also appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to Pimprig.

As far as your question...I'll have to let someone else answer that...I'm not up to date on video cards.

.6600s are not bad but 99% are 128 meg mem. tis fine for most dx9 gaming but dont expect all high res everything.

my 6600gt gets bent over and spanked hard on q4 when i run it 1024x768 on med settings with 2x AA when im playing it for too long, it gets too hot and slows, otherwise tis fine. does hl2 on max settings with 50-70 fps though i dont run anything above 4aa and ansio set to 2x when palying css its not supposed to look great in css.

Welcome to PimpRig

I'm not sure, but I remember hearing that 256MB RAM on a video card isn't very useful unless tied to a 256 bit memory bandwitdth. If this is true then you won't easily find such a card below $100 retail.

BTW, did you take a visit to the deals and steals forum or the trading forum?

Someone mentioned a 6600 GT which would be a good bye for you. Don't worry do much about the 128 or the 256 meg cards, like he said, all about higher res's anyways and with games geting more and more complex a budget card won't be able to scale past 1024 anyways.

But, a great buy would be if you could someone afford a 6800 GT, that would last you alot longer and would be much better value.

Welcome to PR, best online PC community, period

Default Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. After poking aroung this morning, I was really leaning towards a 6600GT like many of you said. I don't think I can afford the 6800GT right now but I will also check out the deals and steals and trading forums.
