| Apex Techie Wannabe | Hey hi, Introducing myself and looking for help on a new project. I am starting the process of building a new PC. While I would like to build a quieter PC this time, I am not looking for complete silence. I am set on a SLI capable motherboard, the gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI, the MSI, and the ASUS, The DFI version seems to be difficult to find. Right now I am also looking at the AMD 3500+ it seems to offer the value/price for this family of processors. I have looking at a SLI video card in the 6600GT 128+mb family or 6800GT family, it seems like they all perform about the same within their families, so I guess I will look at the best bundle. I have go back and forth on power supplies and cases, I like the Lian-li v2000, v21000, v1100 and v1000, and some of the newer not yet released Thermaltake Armor and Kandalf, I am leaning towards the taller cases, to allow for growth and possible hard drive cooling solutions which require using 5 1/4 slots for 3 1/2 drives. I have seen a few sites which have pre moded the Lian-li cases, but not the Thermaltake which in most cases don't require it. Now for the power supply, looking for a quite > 500watt supply, I have looked at several to include enermax noisetaker series, OCZ, PC power and cooling. Trying to balance performance, growth and silence can be achieved but I am looking for some suggestions. Thanks, | |

| Welcome to PR. I think you've got a very good start if you're looking for vendication, you've made some excellent choices. The 3500 is definitely the sweet spot in pricing right now. 6600 and 6800 are both excellent choices, kinda depends on your habits which to get. If you like all the goodies turned on when you game, go with the 6800. As for the board, to early to call a winner with SLI, I think the best boards are probably yet to come. Asus is almost always a safe bet, but the MSI seems to have a very slight edge in the numbers currently. The DFI is in stock at ZipZoomFly.com. The case, is a very personal decision, hard to go wrong with Lian-Li. PC Power and Cooling makes a great psu, they just cost too much. I'd probably opt for the enermax right now. | ||
