| Well well well. . . . As many of you know, there was quite a ruckus caused by TekXoid being a dillhole and attempting to screw over what has to be one of the coolest communities on the net. One, that I'm proud to say, I've been a (until the last few hours) silent member of . . . I regged back in 2003 (after having lurked for about half a year before) and didn't bring the profile out it's box (I'm still peeling of those silly evil tape seals) until I read this amazing abuse of a groups trust. (I said it as plainly as can be said but I feel the need to say it again . . . "Tek, if you read this . . . F*** YOU!") If you're confused as to why I decided to finally speak up and join the boards, read that link, it'll explain it better than I can. Now, to who I am and why this board appeals to me so much . . . 27 year old tech geek . . . I have dabbled with computers in one form or another since I was 6 (everything from Pong to a Vectrex system to the TRS 80, Commodore 64/128 and up . . . DOS/Win, Mac and most recently Linux) eventually leading me into learning some programming on the IBM AS/400 . . . . That's the point in my life that I first discovered things called 'Case Mods' and a group of modders at PimpRig who were doing amazing things! Talk about twisting the perceptions! I was pretty much resigned to the fact that I was about to spend the rest of my life staring at either the ugly biege generic cases or ultilitarian black IBM cases with no decorations beyond the occasional bumpersticker . . . Life happened to me about that time, and college went away due to a severe case of wanderlust . . . Spent the next few years pulling a living out of nowhere doing odd jobs, and supplimenting the survival cash that created with a few under the table pc jobs. (Its amazing how big a tip someone'll give a polite geek when he tells them that he's undercutting the local shops by $20 to $30 an hour . . . I usually ended up getting the competitors rates, in the end.) Those few jobs helped me upgrade my slowly dying Gateway box up to what is now my Linux sandbox (mind you it's a very VERY tiny sandbox as I'm still a mere child in the world of *nix). The next step in my progression as a PimpRig fan is when I discovered that my mobo had blown a capacator that supplied voltage to one of my Ram slots . . . Cutting me down to 256 mb from 512 . . . which led me to scouring PR for ideas . . . . I wanted to get into the Modded scene somehow, even if it were in a small way. Nearly $2000 later, I bought enough hardware to build what was then a killer system (amd xp 2400, thermaltake xaser 2 case with window, 2 80 gig hdds . . . ) as well as a matching case for my old beast . . . (crippled as it was, I was still willing to put it to use, esp as a network storage pc). So, I broke out the little bit of extra cash left over from the afore mentioned spending spree and got some shrink tubing and cable sleeves and spent a slow night on the Tech Support lines (I loved the job, but hated the customers, but it beat the short order cook job I had just before . . . As any tech should be able to tell you) striping the plugs carefully off of my brand new powersupply and neatening the mess up. Now, flashforward another year and a half . . . I'm still proud as hell at the sleeving job I did, and have a few new ideas for what I want to do next, but am lacking the funds to do any of them. But I love reading about the new ideas that come out, and am willing to put in my $.02 should anyone ask. Ok, that's enough of my rambling. Hope that I can add to the culture that has kept me checking back many times a day over the last few years. Drougnor PS. I'm severely outta touch with being on a forum in general . . Its been years since I've posted regularly . . . Added to the fact that I have no avatar or Sig . . . and no ideas on what to use for either . . . any suggestions will be considered in the spirit that they are given. Thanks for reading the ramble! | ||

| Here is my oficial "welcome to PR". I can relate totally to dabbling in many different types of computers (even was an IBM System/36 and AS/400 operator years ago myself), had the TRaSh 80, Commodore VIC-20, 8086es, 286es, 386es, Slot A Athlon and then my current XP 2000+. Not to mention working with Macs at a printing company. You seem to have a level head on your shoulders and you will likely go far here at PimpRig. Welcome again! | ||
