| Presently i have about 6 PCs on my home network and i want to know the best way i can apply any software updates without each PC having to download the updates individually from the internet. Software updates include Windows XPpro, Norton, Office2003, Norton Antivirus etc etc Things like FireFox are easy as the patch can be downloaded once applied to each PC. It would be great to also know how to have the updates applied automatically from a single (or double) click for the entire network! Happy New Year too! Thanks in advance. | ||

| Well, if you are willing to get a Windows Server licence, there is a windows network wide updating system you can implement. For Norton, I'd assume you need some higher level of Norton than standard, I'm pretty sure Enterprise version would have something like that, but I don't know if there is anything inbetween. | ||

| I think i have a license for 2003 Exchange Server from my old business. Im just thinking about building a server or NAS at the moment, but im still undecided cause its only for home. Do you know if Exchange server will let me cache all incoming internet traffic so that all PCs will access this 'cache' on the server first before accessing the internet? Thus, the updates are kept on the server and access from that? | ||

If I recall, I think that is one of the primary purposes for Exchange server, besides email...although I've lost alot to lack of use from when I studied for Windows 2003 Server, but beyond my telling you that exchange will work, that's the exent of my help in that department. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

| For Windows and Office updates, use WSUS (Windows Server Update Services). It's pretty easy to use and is configured through a web interface in Internet Explorer. Windows Server Update Services As for Norton AV, Symantec/Norton Corporate AV can be setup as a server to deploy definitions to clients.
