| Hi there!! I'm hoping that someone here can help me with my new DSL connection. I've setup the connection (Verizon is my provider and no I didn't install their software) and everything is running fine. I'm getting an average of 2.8 MB/s and while that's all well and good, I'm wondering if there's any way that I can squeeze more out of that pipe. I've heard that there are modifications you can make to your MTUs and registry settings that will help your connection. And while I've used google and found plenty of suggestions I find that I have MUCH more trust in the answers I get here at pcApex. I've found that the friends I have here are FAR better at cutting to the chase and giving the information I'm looking for without bogging it down with unnecessary rhetoric. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. -hartigan | ||

| Hit up broadband help » Tweaking for speed and run the tweak tester to adjust your MTU and a few other settings that might help you out some. To be honest though if you're getting 2.8 out of Verizon DSL you're not going to get much more. | ||

| Heh if you using Verizon DSL and getting 2.8m service be happy i have qwest 3M and i stay stable arond 3m up to 4.5M peak. However Qwest does offer up to a 7M service that my brother has and it tops out at nearly 9.5M and stays at a stable rate of 6.5M roughly haven't found to many places to test it. | ||

Yah - Qwest DSL is hella nice. I had the 7 service when I was in Oregon, in Alaska I'm stuck with 256. Why ohh why did I come back to Alaska, I castrated myself down to 1/28th of the man I was?!

![]() Ahem, yes, I meant 2.8 Mbps. Ooops, my error. I'll check out that tweak guide that Sum_12_Fear mentioned. If there's anything else that anyone could suggest, I'd definitely appreciate it.

As for bandwidth I'm getting 8m down and 512k up, but this Friday I think I'll visit the cable fairy and upgrade to 11mb down and 1mb up ![]()

No dice. Only providers are D&E Communications, Service Electric (PenTeleData) (not allowed to have an account with them) and Verizon. Thanks for the suggestion tho. -hartigan

Darn that sucks hope you get your problem fix glad i was able to try and help you out. i have a Verizon wireless card for my laptop and when i was on the road and when i use to go out where you live to the Glidden paint warehouse to pickup loads i am sure you know where that is, i use to park in there parking lot overnight over by the stadium and get connected and my connection with Verizon was pretty good for being on a wireless air card, no where's as fast as my roadrunner, but Verizon work for me just was not good for gaming.

Yeah, I know x-actly where you're talking about. Glidden paint is about 10 miles away from me. You're also right about the Verizon connection being great for browsing, unfortunately I do a bit of downloading too. It's for that reason I'd like to open the pipe, if possible. Thanks again for the help, though. -hartigan

| I got 5mb DL and 987kb UL with Qwest DSL. But my ping sux on gaming servers.... Would that optimizing thing also help with game ping? When I had Comcast cable i was at an average of 60ping on my favorite Quake 3 server. That was a 6mb DL and 1mb UL. This connection isnt much different but im averageing 100 ping now...sux. -EDIT- NM, i just read that page and it said it wont help with gaming/Ping/Packet loss. | ||
