Default Dual wireless routers/networks

So im using a wireless network at home using the a linksys wireless g router. However, whenever im playing and my brother starts to play at the same time we seem to get a lot of lag, also i have another brother who feens on torrenting ****. So, my brother and i have looked into the D-Link wirelessg gaming router, but we have some questions to ask first. One, can we use a Linksys brand wireless card and still connect to a D-Link router? Also, We wanted to have 2 networks running at the same time, so that my downloading brother can use the linksys router while my other brother and i play games on the Dlink router. We are planning on connectiong both wireless routers to a single wired router, thats connected to our cable. So if the 2 wireless routers connect to one other router, will it solve our problems?

how can we make this picture^ work ?

Yes. They connect by a common network interface, not a proprietary one, so you should be OK. As for the other stuff...that's about the limit of my knowledge.

I can not tell you for sure about mix matching routers especially when your talking wireless routers my thoughts on this i would not hook two different wireless routers, can you tell me do you have to be wireless or your brother, That means one of you will be hard wired and the other being wireless problem solved, what i mean is this where is the router is it near your computer or his being the closest to it, at least have him or you directly hook to the router, i also think if you go with a d-link you should have a matching setup meaning router and your wireless card i could be wrong on this, but if i was to setup something like you are i would try to keep everything match up.
Just my $0.02 worth and thoughts on it.
i can tell you the d-link gaming lounge router is awesome for gaming.

You could use two different routers with no problem, but it will not solve your problem.

Your chokepoint is probably not the network (especially if it gigabit), and more likely your internet connection. I would recommend upgrading your internet connection, and telling the torrenter to throttle his bandwidth during your gaming times.

Thanks for posting that TiZakit, that was one of the things i forgot to mention, should have ask him what kind of bandwidth he had that makes a big difference when it comes to gaming.

Yeah, I know that 2 people gaming and one person torrenting would make my internet scream and die... (1.5mbit down/ 384k up)

I would agree with the above ..

Look to see if there is a wireless that will let you lower the bandwidth he has access to.

The brand names are interchange able between cards and routers. .. I used a SMC & Linksys connectng to a D-ling and other combos as well.

The problem is even when the torrenter isnt downloading, When 2 people play anygame at the same time they will both lag... thats what we really want to fix and apparantly the gamer router sounds like what we need, because before on a different router we used to play at the same time 24/7 but now we spike. I can always tell the torrenter to turn them off, but even when there off when my other brother and i try to play anywhere together (even in seperate servers) we lag.

Do you have the same kind of lag problems if you are running plugged into the router instead of over the wifi?

The wireless, torrentor, and your internet connection is the problem. Wireless only works one way at a time so that kinda kills pings. Your prolly kinda far from the router if you cant hardwire it. So add 2 people gaming on wireless inst a good idea since it goes only one way at a time. Also the torrentor is prolly killing your connection. Thankfully I can torrent and game on my laptop and still range a 50 ping in most CS S servers.

Your best bet is to use two routers, connect the secondary using one of the switched ports with a cable. Then use use the Routes feature to set the default gateway and DNS.

Be sure to use the same subnet and scheme.
