Default dns changed: email works, web pages don't

can someone help me understand how this is possible and what I can do to avoid this in the future.
when I change the name servers for someone's domain name, soon I see that the webmail and webpages switch over to the new web hosting service.
I can access their webmail, and see their future home page.

the next time I turn on my computer I can't access web mail, because it somehow reverts back to the previous service, and the page cannnot be found. I can also once again see their entire website (and I know that it's not in my browser's cache). And I haven't yet uploaded it to the new service.
however, when it comes down to it, they can successfully access POP mail. And I can begin to connect to their new ftp service (and not the old)
also my laptop is not having the same problem, but is seeing the pages of the new web hosting service.
both are behind a router

Try ipconfig /flushdns from a command prompt
